Yes SJIJ is usually the backup primary school in this area. It is relatively easier to get into.

None of the 3 schools accept PVs for phase 2B purposes btw. You have to be either a Methodist church member (for ACS) or 1 parent has to have a Catholic baptism cert (for SJIJ) to qualify for phase 2B.

If you don't qualify then you have to go under phase 2C, which may require balloting. If balloted out, the popular backup school is Bukit Timah Primary: any distance also can get in at phase 2C(S), but apparently got some relatively good reviews, just ask around.

Another way to go to Phase 2B is by the grass root leader route. For SJIJ, you're relatively safe to get a place in Phase 2C if you live within 1km, so you just need to get a place within the \"golden triangle\". 😄

I second zac's mum's choice, which is ACSJ.

Thank you - zac's mum and galaxyraider. I have a bit of time to shop for schools. Will make sure i look around well. :xedfingers:

I have 4 blue school shorts (size 20) and 2 black corporate shorts (size 2XS) to give away. The blue shorts have iron-on name labels inside the waist band, but these are not visible from the outside.

These are the smallest sizes. Happy to bless somebody with them since my DS has grown so much (both physically and in other areas) in his past year with ACSJ.

        Please PM me if keen.

            Hi

Could anyone enlighten me which methodist churches must the parent be a member of to qualify for phase 2B at ACSJ? I am a freethinker so cannot advise. My friend is overseas and coming back to singapore next year. She is not sure whether it is any Methodist church. She is a Christian

Can ask during the 6 years study in ACSJ, how many times of streaming expected? I heard there is one from P2 to P3.

Also, I heard Higher Chinese is only offered for P5 onwards… So seems we can only seek external tuition if we want the kids to have a higher standard of Chinese.

Streaming 2 times across 6 years of Primary education (P2 to P3, P4-P5). That would mean the same teachers will follow the boys for 2 years. Perfect programme I would say. But MT stream every year.

No need to seek external tuition for higher chinese between P1-P4 as long as the child picks up chinese story books to read and speak eloquently in Mandarin.

The only difference between Higher Chinese syllabus and regular Chinese syllabus is that the must-know word list for the former contains more words. You can compare on the last page of the HCL and CL textbooks.

So it does not necessarily mean that taking HCL in school will lead to a child having a higher standard of Chinese. And conversely it does not necessarily mean that taking “merely CL” in school will lead to a child being lousy in the language.

External tuition is up to you but only recommended if your child is truly struggling with their schoolwork (regardless of what subject).

IMO the main key to gain a higher standard of Chinese is speaking and using the language often.

Thanks to the informative reply from laughingcat & zac's mum!

Now I feel better on the missing of HCL for P1~P4. 🙂

                      Dear all,

May I ask, is there any school openings at ACSJ for parents to visit and take a look at the school campus? And usually is in which month and how to register?

                      Thank you! :udawoman: :udaman:
