      Hi

Can any parent whose daughter is currently in CHIJ OLGC shed a little light on the school’s culture in recent years? I’ve been contemplating if I should send her to a SAP school where my husband is alumni of, or CHIJ. Any thoughts, however trivial, are greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

My daughter left OLGC last year and I have 2 boys in Maris Stella which is a SAP school. I feel that the IJ culture is stronger than the Maris Stella culture. Even I feel like part of the IJ family (my daughter moved to the affiliated secondary school).

I would say OLGC is a very typical all-girls convent school culture and being a small school it does have a friendly feeling. The girls generally know everyone in their year. They do put an emphasis on the IJ values but I’m not sure how much really stays with the girls. They know what the values are but whether they follow through or not depends on the individual.

          Hi nms1

Thanks for your reply! Were the differences in the standard of the Mandarin a stark contrast of each other comparing both IJ and Maris Stella? I want to know if studying in OLGC was stressful or not, compared to say, Maris Stella. Very sorry for the many questions!!

            Hi momomom,

For my girl's cohort, the mean score for CL is always in the 70s marks region. In general, olgc girls are stronger in English than Mother Tongue.

I don't think it is a good comparison between olgc and Maris Stella as olgc only offer normal Chinese (HCL only in P5 and P6) and whereas Maris Stella offer HCL since P1. Definitely there will be a difference in Chinese Standard from school perspective given Maris Stella is a SAP school.

I can confidently tell you that Olgc overall school standard is HIGH. 😓

Cars are not allow to stop or wait for long in the school compound hence usually parents will drop off and go. There are teachers and wardens on duty every morning and afternoon guiding the traffic hence so far traffic is still ok.

Dear parents, my daughter is due to attend OLGC starting P1 next year (place confirmed under phase 2A2). Looking to connect with other parents of current students or prospective students. Have a blessed day everyone. 🙂
