All About Church/Clan/Society Membership

I wish there’s some kind of test to apply for membership, such as knowledge of Hokkien culture, fluency of Hokkien language… then I have a good chance!
-
Actually, the difficult part is getting the recommendation letter from the Clan, not the membership application.

Smurf, yah, I'm also confused by that quote.
as far as I know, catholic do not need to join or be 'member' of any church. they can just go into any church and pray.
Yes, thus, for your case, from what I've heard, if you are registering in a Catholic school, you just need to produce the Certificate of Baptism (basically to proof that you are a Catholic). -

agree, and i heard the recommendation letter will only come a few days before registration at Phase 2b.
so HIGH STRESS .... -
hi all,
For Hokkien Huay kwan, any mommies here can help to share any personal experience of yours through the Phase 2B route, be it successful in getting the endorsement letter and not successful and for which school ?
Always heard people saying there are some "hotter" schools under the clan umbrella as compared to some other schools.
Your kind sharing will provide some guidance to rest of us who is considering this option.
Many thanks.

Hi, just joined as newbie. Was reading the forum on joining the clan SHHK. If my husband's father is cantonese but mother is hokkien, and my parents are not hokkien, can my husband join as a member so that my child can get chance to ballot under 2B? I called the SHHK but got mixed answers. A man said no, but another time I called, a lady said either parents need to be hokkien.
Hi ango, you posted in the wrong thread which is why you did not receive a response to your question. Anyway, the answers given by both male and female receptionists at the SHHK are correct.
If neither you nor your spouse is Hokkien, ie. neither of your FATHERs are Hokkien, then neither of you can apply to SHHK.
If either you or your spouse are Hokkien, then the one that is Hokkien can apply to be a SHHK member and your children can get priority Phase 2B registration assuming that your membership tenure is long enough for the SHHK to grant you that benefit.
Hope this is clear enough. -

Hi All,
Would like to know also do you need to volunteer your service to SHHK to increase your chance of getting the endorsement letter? Has anyone gotten their endorsement letter by just be a \"sleeping\" member?
Your kind sharing will be beneficiary to all of us plannig this option.
Thanks.mwchua:

May I know how to do the registration?

I dun think so. Is there any parish church that is 'registered' with the school? I've never heard of it.
Also, Catholic dun 'registered' with any church, although you may be frequently going to that church.
I think Tulip is right about the Cert of Baptism? Will go and ask more info.

You would still need a letter from the church. Rest assured....it is fairly straightforward. When the time is due, the church would either announce during service or via the church newsletter that parents who plan to register their kids to a Methodist affiliated P1 school using the church 'connection' that year would have to submit their request by filling up a form. You will then receive an official endorsement from the church in the form of a letter confirming your affiliation to the church thus allowing you to apply to the school under Phase 2B. You will have to produce this letter on the day of the P1 registration.Other than Tao Nan, Haig Girls, my wife and I are also considering MGS for my daughter. Would like to know what is the definition of \"endorsed\" here ? Does it mean that by simply being a member of a Methodist Church, we're \"endorsed\" and it qualifies my daughter for phase 2B or do I still require a letter of recommendation from the church ?
Are there different \"endorsement\" critieria for the different Methodist Schools ?
I doubt that there are different endorsement criteria. As long as you are a member of the Methodist church, you should have no problems obtaining the letter.
