      a question that appeared from my exam i am remembering this with my best ability!

      one more question , can you please check if there is a mistake my friends and i could not even get the answer! UNDOABLE!

      Tom and Harry bought some cartons of soya bean drink and herbal tea. Tom bought 3/8 of the cartons. Both of them bought 48 more cartons of soya bean drink than herbal tea. Harry bought 2/5 of the soya bean drink and 1/2 of the herbal tea. How many cartons did Tom buy?

      Thanks for your help!
      hi I didnot bother working out but this is why I agree with you that it's undoable. (so perhaps the fault lies with 1/2 of herbal, perhaps it should be 1/3)
      Harry bought 5/8 of the cartons, or 2/5 of soya and 1/2 of herbal.
      Tom bought 3/8 of the cartons, or 3/5 of soya and 1/2 of herbal.
      The first inconsistency is thaton the left hand side Harry bought more but on the right tombought more.
      The second inconsistency is that ifboth bought 48 more soya cartons than herbal, and both bought 1/2 of herbalcartons, shouldn't they have bought the same number of soyacartons?

              Names differ

              Tom had $200 more than Harry. In the afternoon, Tom gave some money to Harry. The ratio to the amount he had left to the amount he gave away is 2:3. In the evening, Harry gave some money to Tom. The ratio of the amount he had left to the amount he gay away is 3:1. In the end, Harry had $200 more than Tom. How much did Tom have at first?

              Thanks for your help!
              When Tom gave sone money to Harry
              Tom : 5u - 3u = 2u
              Harry : 5u - $200 + 3u = 8u - $200

              When Harry gave some money to Tom
              Harry : (8u - $200) - (2u - $50) = 6u - $150
              Tom : 2u + (2u - $50) = 4u - $50

              (6u - $150) - ( 4u - $50) = $200
              2u = $200 + $150 - $50 = $300
              1u = $150

              Amt Tom had at first = 5u = 5 x $150 = $750
