May I know if ds is doing higher mother tongue chinese in Sec 3 and 4 (SJI), will he be able to do Chinese B in IB level? And will they get to do the Chinese B exam in Year 5 instead of Year 6?

The short answer is yes. But if he gets an A for HMT, then he has to either take Lang B at HL level or another language at Ab Initio level.
Found here: https://sites.google.com/a/sji.edu.sg/levels-of-learning/home/upper-sec-ip-faq
Is it necessary for students who have achieved an A1/A2 grade in Higher Chinese at the O-Level Exam to study Mandarin at the Higher Level under Group 2 in IBDP?
Students who have obtained an A1/A2 grade for Higher Chinese at the O-Level exam, can choose either to do Mandarin at the Higher Level or another Ab Initio language at IBDP. This is because in the IBDP, Group 2 (Language Acquisition) is about acquiring another language. A student who has done well in Higher Chinese can only be \"acquiring\" the language if he goes on to do it at the Higher Level. Otherwise, he would have to \"acquire\" another language which he has not done before - in this case, at the ab initio level.
I don't think the IB Lang papers are taken in year 5, but I don't know this for a fact -
Any experienced students/ parents with kids in Year 5/6 who joined from O level track? Would like to know if there is a big adjustment and if O level kids can cope with it. Thanks
