      Dear parents,

I’m in a dilemma and need advice. I’m an Alumni of Henry Park and initially was sure of sending my kids there. But now I’m having second thoughts of sending both my girls to SCGS (primary) instead. So I’m thinking of buying a place <1km of SCGS as neither me Nor my Wife currently qualify for other phases.

Question: what happens if I end up failing in Phase 2C? can I still apply to Henry Park as Alumni? And what are chances of getting in then? Can I “appeal” as an Alumni? (I really don’t want end up send my children to school of not my choice.) thanks in advance for your advice!
You can certainly put in your ballot for SCGS at phase 2C. If you fail, you can apply to Bukit Timah Primary School at Phase 2C(Supp). I heard it is not bad.

Appealing to HPPS/SCGS is not guaranteed and solely at the discretion of the school unfortunately. You may expect to wait till P3 or P4 until places open up.

If you don't want to send your children to school of not your choice, stick to Henry Park.

Alumni is Phase 2A, which is before some other people (Phase 2B), and those with no connections (Phase 2C).
The phases work linearly, i.e. one before the other.
If you pass up the chance for Phase 2A and gun for Phase 2C, and somehow failed to meet the target, you move on to Phase 2Cs. There is no turning back the clock to the alumni phase. You can always wait list but an opening will depend on someone else giving up his / her place and also how high your priority is in the wait list.

Thanks Floppy for your advice! On one hand its indeed a risk.. on the other, when I think about HP being non affiliated, I worry..

Thanks Zac's mum! So I can appeal at SCGS (or HP) if I fail at Phase 2C? Erm, but waiting till P3 or P4 isn't really an option..

Anybody may appeal to any primary school in Singapore that they like, of course. There is nothing against that. Every appeal is assessed on a case by case basis.

Best to stick with your guaranteed seat at HPPS. At least it is already one of the top schools. Many would kill to be in your situation IMO.

              Hi all

I have a question to ask:
I’m currently staying at TPY, bought a place at Redhill which will only TOP in June 2021. My girl is registering next year and according to MOE ruling, I can only use my new address for the registration if it TOP within 2 years . But according to the date above, it is 2.5 years .

Does any parent know if I can appeal to MOE or can I apply for a transfer to the school at Redhill after admitting her into the tpy primary school?

              TIA in your advice!

Registration is usually in Jul/Aug, so technically it's within 2 years. You should be able to use your new address and register in Redhill area.

It’s generally easier to apply to the school during P1 registration compared to transfer as transfer has many uncontrollable issues, especially if the school is popular, like availability of vacancy.

You should write in to MOE to clarify as it should be based on date to registration to TOP like galaxyraider said - which means you are within the ballpark.

Only fined a few thousand dollars?

I thought there was a similar case (2014?) and the Dad ended up sent to jail and the girl needed to be transferred out from the choice primary school.

Yes maximum penalty has jail time. And child will be transferred out.

CNA article not very good. I found a better write up in Today:

Couple fined S$9,000 for using fake address to get son into school in Bishan
