I have a really wonderful maid from Indonesia! This is my first time hiring a maid and she has far exceeded my expectations!

Thanks to my hubby for picking her out based on her experience:
      - worked in Singapore before for 5 years
      - looked after 3 boys age ranging from infant to primary school
      - can speak English AND Chinese!!!

      WOW!

If you want to have as little problem as possible, it is a good bet to take one who used to work in Singapore and for quite a number of years with the same family.

That means she is stable, no first-time work phobia and already gotten used to SG culture and way of life!

      :celebrate:
      You are so lucky....... πŸ˜‰

Actually my maid is also like yours. Indonesian, can speak English an Chinese and some dialect. She is also 4 years ex-singapore. For 1st timer its good to hire someone experience, you get less headache but like what moonee says, its better to be vigilant.

Eventhough my maid don’t give any problem, I m still strict with her and because she is an "old bird", she sometimes tries to outsmart you. That’s when you need to put her in position. She will know how to ask for things like gloves to protect her hand while washing clothes.

Am happy to hear a successful story here.

Just want to encourage you to continue to be vigilant and after one and a half year still like that,...that means she is :celebrate:

Congratulations....as long as both of you can work well together, that is the best. But just to echo the other voices in this forum, do be aware and careful (whilst counting your blessings). :imanisland:

My current maid has also worked in Singapore for 6 years, for one employer only. She is a wonderful maid. She is not a super fast maid, but she is honest, reliable, humble, mature, alert, these are the most important qualities of a good maid. She is my number 8 maid, so for me it was lots of trials and errors.

Getting a maid with at least 4 years experience in Singapore, for one employer is the best bet.

I advise all employers to check the employment history of the maid on the MOM website :
              http://singaporemaid.blogspot.com/2010/03/how-to-check-employment-history.html

Do not believe in the maid's biodata which can be all lies.

                    Hi Tamarind

JUst wanted to share with you that getting a maid with 4 years experience in Singapore for one employer may not be the best option. They will have certain habits from the other household and will have more demands such as using HP. My first and current maid is just like yours and is in the 7th year with me. She was ex-Singapore for 4 yrs before I got her in 2004. She was just like the way you described your maid and we treated her just like the way you did so as mentioned in your blog. For the last 10 mths, I am having so much problems with her using her HP(till midnght, also in the day) that I feel like sending her back phillippines. We had spoken to her at least 4 times already. Now she carries her HP on her such that I cannot check at all and delete all the call logs. I am a SAHM with 4 young kids.

I would definitely hesitate to recommend her to another mummy now even though her work is good and she is honest and reliable.

                      moonee:
Is this yr first time employing a maid? We dnt need an ex sing cos its mostly general housework and my mum prefer to train the maid to do her way... not all ex sg are good , they do have their set of problems too.

Do keep a watchful eye and not be too trusting. 😎

                      Hi Moonee, πŸ˜‰

Yes, it was 1st time hiring for us and she is now with me for 2.5 years already. I would have picked up a fresh one with no experience but hubby decided she should be experienced since we need her to look after the baby!

Agree we should always keep a watching eye and not be too trusting no matter how good. For 1.5 years each day my in-law will be with the maid to keep an eye on her. From 1.5 yo I put my kid into child-care to lighten the workload so that we do not have to rely on her totally!

                      Cheers! :celebrate:
