There will be a briefing by the principal next Saturday. Considering that my ds is a boarding student, can anybody give a clue about whether I should impose my self to attend the meeting? I mean, most of my ds need is being taken care of by the hall master (and hall tutors) and we (the parents) are thousands kilometers away from my ds. We won't be able to do much help in most cases anyway (like cca maters, problem with homework or even my ds daily life). Can anybody here give me a hint (usually) what is being speak about?

I am not too sure which year your son is in but the usual things covered are as follows:

1) introduction of year directors and class teachers
2) re-iteration of school rules and services provided - eg. parking policy, anti-bully policy, financial assistance procedures, counselling service.
3) challenges your child might face in this year of study due to subject/curriculum changes
4) important timelines for submission of Internal Assessments/ TOK presentation/ EE.. etc. (especially for Year 6)

Considering you are miles away, I dont think it is really necessary for you to attend this session.
If i am not wrong, the slides presented by the Principal will be uploaded on the school website for parent's reference.
What some of us do is to ask fellow parents to take photo of important slides and forward to us for info.

hi breeze, thanks for your reply and thank you for the hint. Well then, it seems like I’ll skip this briefing. I am going to go to PTM on may 25th though - I reckon that would be the time we could interact both ways with the teacher, right?


I would appreciate if anyone here whose going to the meeting would share their thought if anything interesting comes up.

Received notice that DS will sit for the ESIS test this saturday. Therefore would appreciate any info from other DS who have taken the test:
- what are the types of questions?
- what are the chances of receiving this scholarship? is it based purely on the results of the test? or do they take into consideration PSLE, Y1 and Y2 grades?

Would anyone know how many DSA slots they offer for students who want to try for LEADERSHIP and DEBATE? I do know that they have more slots for sports.

Would the P or VP have those answers during the coming Open House 2018?

I managed to have a look at DSA 2017 open house slides and they listed Leadership as one of the domains but a quick indicates that it is not on the MOE website.

My nephew did badly for his Math mid year exam. Like failed badly 42%. Is it normal to fail once in a major exam? Or he is exceptioanlly weak?

Your nephew failed Math in secondary school? Is he part of the IP track? No worries, that's pretty normal. I failed Math a few times in secondary school (IP) as well haha but I still managed to score well for IB exams at the end of the road. Just remember not to put excessive pressure on him and let him discover his strengths and weaknesses. It will be fine in the long run. I think failure is an essential part of growing up

ACS(I) Sec 2 students just received their mid-term results. My son would like to transfer from Express to IP. He received a 255 on his PSLE the year that the COP was 256. His grades have not been stellar, but they haven’t been horrible either. In Sec 1, his L1R5 was an 8, and his average score was a 77.1 (6 A1s, a B3 and a C5). His final math result killed him - it was a 59. His midyear results (just released) were an average of 72 (2 A1s, 2 A2s, 2 B3s and a B4). He is quite active and has taken leadership roles in his CCAs; and he has won/earned recognition in significant ways. In addition, he was selected class chairman by his class. QUESTION: For those of you parents whose sons have applied to transfer from the Express Track to the IP Track at the end of Year 2, do you have a sense of whether my son, with this profile, would have a good chance of getting IP? Any tips? Thank you for your insights!
