2018 P1 registration exercise for 2019 intake

studies and discipline is the parents' responsibility. honestly i can't think of any school which will look into the areas you mentioned. of course there will be a discipline master but on the whole, parents have to take charge.

Of these 5 schools, which of these would you choose for your 2019 P1 dragon baby living in Dakota?


CHIJ Katong (Phase 2B) - One parent is Catholic
Opera Estate (Phase 2C)
Tanjong Katong (Phase 2C) - Am aware it's afternoon session for P1 and P2; and at holding site in Bedok for 2019
Canossian Convent (Phase 2C)
Haig Girls School (Phase 2C)

We are PR and do not live within 2km of any schools. Ideally we want a school with a holistic attitude towards education, a friendly parent community, a good selection of CCAs - especially sport and music, and a diverse student body (if possible).

We chose CHIJ Katong for our daughter for the same considerations - diversity , holistic education, parent community etc . She just started Primary 1 this January and is enjoying herself. While it is early days, my experience is largely positive. Her class (the school in general) is quite diverse compared to a typical Singapore school with a mix of nationalities, ethnic groups etc. Feom what I could see , the school actively promotes inclusiveness and engages the parents on academic and non-academic journey.

As a citizen , we didn’t have to ballot last year and there were vacancies available for PR/foreigners. There are more local children in the 2019 cohort so the profile and odds might change.

My daughter is also born in the year of Dragon!
So stress cos she is my only child!

Am debating between these 2 schools near my place:
1) CHIJ Our Lady Queen of Peace (this is out of 1km) :nailbite:
2) Green ridge Primary School

Any advise?

Depends on whether you prefer a girls or co-ed school? Is Greenridge within 1km?

One consideration to take is if the Primary school had a Secondary school affiliated.

I realise how important this is as my daughter just had her PSLE last year. With an affiliated secondary school, it can reduce a lot of pressure knowing that your child had the priority and the lower cut-off points. If my daughter’s primary school do not have the affiliation, she would have a much more limited choice of school to choose.

i totally agree with you.
even though there is affiliation, i still wanted daughter to do well.
as long as the first choice is the affiliated secondary, she will get into the school. the pressure is greatly reduced.

Application wise, it's straighforward:
1. Follow father's address if the parents address do not match.
2. If you do a statutory declaration, you will be placed in the 1-2km even if the grandparents live within 1km.

However, do note that if the parents' addresses do not tally, you may have to explain why (which could even escalate beyond MOE).
Under the National Registration Act, you must report a change of address within 28 days. Any person who fails to report the change of residence as required shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years or to both.
Not sure the rewards for \"logistic purpose\" is worth the potential punishment meted.
