Preschool industry : principal's versus writer's role
-
Hi, curriculum is as important as the principal’s management skills. How about writing for your own school? Assessment books, online tutelage services…?

Hi sky minecrafter,
Unfortunately my specialisation is in the early years. Considering a switch to the social service sector working with families and young children.
Thanks for the reply. -
It's understable to see curriculum writer's work in applying himself to pre-schoolers' learning in today's demanding context. A good curriculum writer provides impt leads to children's learning & as a parent, I'll certainly appreciate. My opinion is that a curriculum writer's work can bring in recurring revenue if it's sought after & of high std, just as some famous tuition Centre are known for learning materials that hv substance & well laid out to spur/inspire children's learning.
It is also impt for a pre-school principal to be recognized for his/her role in managing schoolers, educators, assistants, kitchen cook, etc. The principal's role as a leader has a lot on their plate - caring for overall learning std at the Centre (incl approving teaching materials) answer to parents & authorities wrt health, Mgt & all other stakeholders. My u'stand'g is they're read to hold at least a degree in Edn/Childhood Edn etc if not a Masters.
Both bring in diff value & hv diff level of responsibilities. It depends on how the school values each respective roles.
sky minecrafter's suggestion might work well for u if u're able to write & publish some assessment books, video tutelage/online and specialize in your area. The new generation of parents need a lot of help to max their time and help their child learn in a home environment.
Hope you'll find your niche. -
Thank you for your encouragement. The recruiter was quite upfront with me during the meeting. He said he will not place me in certain organisations due to their bad reputation. I asked for more information and he rattled off a list of names. Then he asked me if I was surprised. I said no. Nothing surprises me anymore after more than 2 decades in the industry.

Hi Han Seo, thought you found your job some time back already?

-
That was just an interview. There was some miscommunication between the head and me. She was looking for a consultant to head the department but I was looking for just a writer’s position. She started quizzing me on SPARKS criteria. What was criterion 2.2? 2.3? 2.4? And 2.5? Maciam like sitting for an exam. I was unprepared. Of course did not pass the interview.
-
Now centres are obsessed with SPARKs as it is supposed to be a measure of quality. A friend who is still teaching told me her cluster principal made them pass their teaching materials to teachers in another centre so that the latter can get the SPARKS certification.
-
what is SPARKS certification? confused
-
Quality stamp by ECDA to certify that a centre has met a slew of criteria eg curriculum, management, learning environment, assessment etc
