Actually sleepy, I was really clueless when my child was born...but over the years of meeting the most ks parents in town, I learned alot from them about the new system, so it set me thinking....and I finally saw the light.... Now PSLE is the stressful exam, I see most parents taking a relaxed disposition from Sec 1 onwards....funny right when subjects increased by double or more and with more compulsory CCAs......it's just so WEIRD........ :roll: No doubt parents could be more involved at the primary level than the secondary level, many children lose alot of childhood time which can never return.

Having seen neighbourhood sch student, took the poly route, went to top uni, got 1st of the 1st, out-performed all the xxx scholars (obviously they came by the above-mentioned route), wiped out all the medals/prizes. Saw some from top JCs, repeating at local Us. Can joke somemore, \"we are given 7 yrs to complete the degrees\". very confusing..... Who is the top? Adam Khoo did badly at PSLE too. :celebrate:

Singapore is a little red dot with no natural resources. the only asset owned is people, which partially explains why SG’s national spending in Education ranks 2nd. also becoz SG is small, we are more kiasu, we can’t wait to uncover young talents till teenager (that is why we have GEP). in this aspect, i think it makes sense for PSLE to be more "famous" than other level national exams…

In china, PSLE has been scrapped for quite many years. think they can afford to wait…
MOE website says there is GEP program in China. I dont think so. At least at primary level, there is no such program. they don’t give selection test at all. But they do have program catered for prodigy who are placed in Uni…

Is it correct to say the major exam in China, Taiwan, Korea is the uni-entrance exam? :? at national level i mean. :celebrate:

In China, the first major exam is at the end of Year 9 when they are finishing junior middle 3 (初中3). Results from this exam will determine which senior middle school they will go - the top ones will help prepare them well for the national uni entrance exam at end of senior middle 3 (高中3)


and the uni entrance exam is just for a few days in the summer … and some literally gone mad when got news that they can’t get into their choice uni

Being a top civil servant all its cut out to be? You could be grovelling in front of the microphones like poor Minister Ng yesterday (ok, he technically not a civil servant, but you get the point). My sympathies to him really, he didn't deserve it.

Having said that, some of the EDB officers I meet who manage our account are really really bright kids, surely top students of their day. If my kids can be as smart and dedicated, I'd be :love: . Too bad it don't pay that well.....but good having them work for us.

I hear civil servants who are/near the top earn buckets of money...so it could be worth one's while to explore that.

Could it be because by their teenage years, parents are too busy dealing with teenage angst, or too overawed by the many subjects that they cannot adopt the same stressed disposition?

after the kids entered sec school, they also become more mature and know how to study on their own. after some guidance with time management, they go on on their own.....the PSLE has been like a 'baptism by fire' to them....so they are more able to manage stress too

now my older one in sec 3 has tuition only for add math & CL and does homework and project without supervision or nagging

Think parents too gancheong, tuition tuition, then train pupils like olympic. MOE also kiasu intro IP, IB. everyone all excited.
Now our kids lose their happy childhood. Cousins cannot meet each other except for June+Dec. Oh CNY too. 3 times a year only.
