      Scary, isn't it ?
      ...
Imagine one student with 26x, computer selected him, got balloted into a good Secondary school, while another student with 27x (higher T-score), but computer didnt pick him up, instead he got balloted into another \"less good\" Secondary school. For the next 6 years, he got to study in this \"less good\" IP Secondary school. Frustrated, isn't it, because 27x performed so much better than that 26x student, yet couldn't get in ?

I think it’s scary that people still think that any schools with a 26x COP (or even a 250s COP) can be considered as “less good”. Extrapolating that argument, some of the remaining secondary schools, even those in the 24x range, would probably fall under the “horrible”, “cannot make it”, etc.

      Elitism 101.

every parent wants the best for their kids ma....
      its quite logical.

aim for the stars....missed, reached the top of the coconut tree
also not bad... at least got the coconut to eat.

Not wrong but.. You are talking about the 270x, 260x and 250x. The gap isn't as big as the star and coconut tree.
        Think of it this way:
You aim for Alpha Centauri A (a 27x target)... you missed but manage to reach Alpha Centauri B (a 26x target)... or suay suay ended up in Proxima Centauri (a 25x target).
Reaching any of those star systems would have been an achievement by itself. May not have reached your primary target but you are still an astronaut.

It’s not the same as aiming to be an astronaut but ended as a PHV driver.

          don't get me wrong....

I am not Minister Ng nor do i endorse the AL system...

we, (I assume many of us are pink IC), went through the streaming la... EM123 la... PSLE la...
at least when my kid gets 260, I can say he did better than Daddy...

this AL system is more of a confusion than a disassociation from peer comparison.
          IMO only...

We are getting off-topic already…but this is my interpretation of the purpose of the AL banding system:

It is to redefine the best school and spread out the top scorers to several best schools. Honestly, I do not like the current situation where RI and RGS are seen as the top boys & girls secondary school, and where only 27x can enter. Under AL banding, the population of such top scorers will be spread out to a few alternative schools that are also good quality. The students themselves can exclude from their option form those schools that they really don’t wish to be in. But whatever their choices, I’m sure they will hardly be going to the worst school in Singapore. Seriously, within the first-tier secondary schools, the variation in teaching quality does not differ a lot.

It is us parents’ perceptions of school X and school Y which needs to change.

Are you out of your mind?
Why must you stress your child by comparing his T-score with Daddy's T-score? Isn't it great he now has no more benchmark?

Btw, Minister Ng is not going care about this. He's stepping down from MOE soon.

P1 registration has always been a stressful time…especially those born in hot years like dragon and horse years. I understand there will be some changes for this year’s registration:

                      1) p1 can register online (maybe it already started but I didn’t realize)
                      2) balloting will not be manual like before…wonder if parents feel less stressful this way.

Minister Ng will be parked under higher office…wonder if he will still share the portfolio with OYK.

no more manual balloting, in schools. So no need to turn up in school physically anymore.

computer balloting done at MOE premises, parents also no need to attend MOE.
Since no need to attend balloting anymore, perhaps less stressful ?
or parents don't feel safe, because they can't watch the balloting process in progress anymore, no longer Transparent to parents ?

After balloting over, MOE will inform parents : in or out ?
if balloted out, just proceed to next phase.
