      Compute of MSG : (1x1+1x2+1x1+1x1+1x0.5+1x0.5) / (1+2+1+1+0.5+0.5) = 6 / 6 = 1

110 Nanyang Girls' High students fall sick during boarding school programme.

SINGAPORE: Nanyang Girls' High School has suspended its boarding school experience programme after about 110 students went down with diarrhoea and stomach ache over the past week, the school's principal said on Monday (Apr 2).

The students were staying at Nanyang Girls’ Boarding School as part of a four-week programme for the Secondary 2 cohort to learn how to live independently.

Some students were taken ill last week and went to see a doctor. They were diagnosed with food poisoning and stomach flu.

In response to queries from Channel NewsAsia, the school's principal Mdm Ng Chuen-Yin said the programme had been suspended for a week. She added that most of the students who reported ill did not see a doctor as their symptoms were mild.

\"The majority of the students were back in school today, while the rest are recovering well,\" said Mdm Ng.

She added that the school had not received reports of any new cases of stomach ache or diarrhoea this week but will continue to monitor the situation.

Meanwhile, the school has disinfected the dining and food preparation areas as well as the boarding school premises.

Mdm Ng said that parents have been kept informed of the situation and that the school was working with the relevant government agencies to investigate the cause of the incident.

Do they have vendors that prepare the food themselves in the boarding school or they cater from outside vendors? Maybe the preparation process was contaminated somehow.

                  Hi,

My daughter is in her year 3 IP programme. She was posted to NYGH via JAE. We understand that she’ll continue her year 5 and 6 in HCI.
However, we are wondering if there is a possibilty for her to transfer to RI instead?
We heard some of her seniors (IP also) actually stayed 1 more year in NYGH after year 4 and then successfully transferred to RI. We are not sure if they hv retained cos their year 4 score didn’t qualify for HCI or they hv retained to take O level. It wasn’t very appropriate for us to asked them so we thought maybe someone could help shed some light here?
Some said that it is because there are some subjects required in RI which they hv not taken in NYGH thus need to study one more year in NYGH for the required subject. Not sure how true though, all hear-say…
                  Does anyone know ?
                  Thanks for any input.

                    Hi Sugar18,

JAE is usually for O level students applying to go to JC, so it is unusual for your dd to be posted to NYGH at sec 3 via JAE? Or are you referring to SPERS/DSA at mid Sec 2 for entry to Sec 3? Typically if DSA to NYGH then you can’t change / transfer to other IP JC at year 5 or 6. Most cases I’ve heard of NYGH DSA girls who can’t proceed to HCI are that they either retain, take O level, go poly, or go private/international schools. But if your girl weren’t admit to NYGH via DSA (e.g., PSLE posting) then she should be able to apply to transfer to RI(JC) at mid Sec 4 for entry to Year 5, based on her NYGH school results, CCA, and other achievements.

Unlikely there is such a case whereby RI requires a particular subject that they have not taken in NYGH thus need to study one more year in NYGH for the required subject. Anyway, HCI is a very good school, just curious why you are considering transferring your dd to RI?

                      Hi mommy ng,

Thank you so much for your reply…
Sorry i wasn’t very clear in my earlier.
What i meant was she was admitted to NYGH (IP) via the normal PSLE posting, not DSA.
Well, she said she doesn’t rlly like the "vibe/culture" in HCI, too "chinese" oriented. it’s not decided yet so we didn’t want to alert the teacher with our query. Therefore, thought we can get some info here .
So basically it is possible to transfer with her year 4 results as long as she’s not DSA? Hmm, wonder why her senior (also IP but not DSA) need to stay back for another year in order to transfer to RI?
Would non-DSA IP girls be retained too if they did not do well for their finals in year 4?

                        Hi Sugar18,

Sure, it is always good to think ahead. Yes, it is possible for her to transfer in year 4, via DSA-JC process if she is not taking O levels. You may want to start finding out about the requirements for DSA-JC to RI (e.g., academic results, CCA, etc.) and then work towards it. Yes, non-DSA IP girls will be retained too if they do not do well in year 4. The promotion criteria applies to all girls. It is possible that her senior might be retained due to poor results but worked very hard in the repeat year to gain entry to RI the following year...?
