Shichida Right Brain Training - Discussion

I put my DS in SM for more than 2 years before P1.

Pulled him out after he went to P1 in 2006, after learning from MS instructors that they don’t link to academic result.

My suspicions are, flash cards at fast and faster speed may have cultivated habit with short focus span, which school teachers regard as ADD.
Fast and faster listening of accelerated audio trails may cause kids to loss interest in listening to normal pace lessons in school.
Linking memory is designed not to make sense, so that it will activate the idled brain cells, however, I think it may have become a bad habit, and caused kids to rebel against systematize grammar in English etc.

so it is case by case, as every kid is unique to their own virtue. it all depend on the pre conditioned brains, which the child is born with, I don’t believe a single method can suits all brain. try teaching a monkey with SM, will it work?

All I can say is, if your child is gifted with photographic memory like that of Andy Grove or Koh Boon Hwee, you dont need SM.

I recalled SM work by stimulating right brain cells and neurons, and schools systems are stimulating left brain cells, theoritically from age 6 onwards.

Recently, I read in BBC health, that flash cards may not be suitable for ADD or ADHD kids… so I might have instead worsen my DS ability to focus…

So open your mind, understand your kids strengths and weaknesses before deciding on Kiasu journey.

Is it possible to join the SM only at 5 years old?


I've never had the intention of sending my almost 5 years old son to SM until a friend told me how it has helped her son. But seems that most kids start at a much earlier age!

Kindly advise.

SM suggested to start as early as 18 months, while the kids brains are full of neurons, according to their studies, these neurons would gradually die off, if they are not activated by the age of 6.

I know that SM classes start from as young as 3-4 months old. My boy is coming to 1 year old. I am not sure if I want to send him to formal classes yet, but I don't mind exploring buying a couple of home kits to try with him first.

Can I get some advice on which sets of training cards or materials from SM I should get to start him off and how do I do those cards or home training with him?

Are those random/variety/organised dot cards useful at his age?

At what ages do I introduce flash memory, colour memory, space memory, matching memory, memory linking, photographic memory, mandala, power of suggestion, etc etc?

:? i am lost amid all the different types of training under SM! any advice from parents whose kids are undergoing SM training will be much appreciated.

I would advise u to attend the class if u are really interested to do these activities with yr child. U will have a clearer pic of how to teach these activities when u r at home.

U can do most of the activities which u have mentioned. For linking memory, for a start, u can do 3-4 cards first. As for flash memory, abt 100 cards a day. They have recently changed a bit on the dots program where u can use any types of dots card to teach yr child. But I am still sticking to the organised dots cards.

Shichida really has a very good program. But we must do our part to do the activities with the child at home to see results. This is one of the advices by the principal during the seminar too. I do see the results in my boy. He remembered his A-Z, 1-10 when he is 16 months old, phonics when he is 17th months old and addition from 1-10 when he is 20th months old. He's 25th months old and he knows more than 200 words and try to read simple books on his own.

He attended the class since last April. Previously, I was using Glenn Doman method till he was 12 months old.

I started using flashcards to teach my boy when he was about 9-10 months old. He is 14+ months old and just started classes in Shichida KL in Apr. We do home practice every weekday and he enjoys it as much as I do. It is apparent that he is learning very fast at this age. He is beginning to fix simple puzzles, stack blocks, keep toys, trying to read words, and learning to speak very well.

I'm very glad that the Shichida Method gives a good guide on how to help kids learn when they find it the easiest to learn. Highly recommended indeed!

can i supplement with GD flashcards for home practice and yet send my boy for SM? What is the difference between GD and SM flashcards?

Hi, I am Sarah. I have a eight month old baby and is thinking of enrolling him to some lessons. I am considering Glenn Doman or Shichida. New enrollment for both classes are availbale only in Oct 2010. As the waiting list for Shichida is long, I will need to decide fast. Anyone can help?

I'm glad to hear that yr boy is also learning well in Shichida. Will stay with Shichida till he is 6 yrs old.
