Teachers to pay for parking at schools from Aug 1
-
I agree with you. This is a perk that they deserve. They have to reach school so early, ahead of the students, and they leave very late as well. With heavy piles of books and/or equipment. This is very hard to achieve with public transport. Teachers morale undoubtedly will take a hit. Very sad.

how about junior college students like JC2 students who just acquired their new driving license, and drive to school park whole day in school, these JC students need to pay too ?
in cases where Junior college or Secondary school car park premises too small, insufficient car park lots for all (IP) and O-level Teachers to park, does it mean that Tr have to ballot, for a parking lot, even if they have $ to pay ?
there are a few issue(s) here :
a)
Tr not willing to pay,
b)
some Tr dont mind paying, but need to ballot for a lot, in those JC / primary or Sec schools with insufficient lots.
in the event, insufficient car park lots inside JC :
means JC2 students compete with staff (Tr), to ballot for a lot ?
The same qn : apply to Polytechnic students, because had seen Poly students driving -

If they don't want to drive, means now Tr have to stay back behind in the staff room, to mark books, since no car to bring home heavy stack of students' workbooks to mark. Either this or lug a big, heavy luggage bag containing students' workbooks to mark, take MRT / public transport/ taxi homeI agree with you. This is a perk that they deserve. Other public servants have to pay as well. If MOE wants to be nice and give them a perk, they can put it back in as a transport allowance.
Actually I don’t understand the rationale that teachers work long hours. Are their hours any longer than other professions?? At one job, I worked from 1pm to 10-midnight, shifts and alternate weekend, considered normal. They have stable hours, home for dinner everyday, more holidays than in most professions. For most jobs, the average annual leave is 2 weeks. -

I am against this move. Teachers is doing a self sacrificial role educating our young. There should be an exception for teachers.
I'm with you here GinMocca!
Teacher's spend many hours engaging more than 2 kids at any one time. In classrooms, at least 30 plus for durations of half hour and more, for at least 6 hours & CCA times. It's alr tough for mums to deal with our own kids, I find it stressful at times when my kids are active or act out or hv meltdowns. Dealing with human emotions not easy.
They don't always work under air-conditioning and hv to be 24/7 watching kids around the sch compound in case incidents happen. They don't always shut themselves in staff room or walk ard ignoring kids' cries for help leh. They're there for our kids when we're not there. They're watching over the future of our nation isn't it?
Their vacations are restricted to sch holidays & even then hv to schedule in meetings, trainings & other sch events.
Moreover, they don't just deal with kids - they've to face parents' queries, demands, etc.
Why deny them of parking privileges? I don't wish to be petty with this kind of thing. Good to be accommodating & ease their load as example they can drive home & not struggle with public tpt or carry heavy books, we're helping teachers less stress to be refreshed to attend to our kids.
I'm thankful for these professionals. Don't make it so unattractive to do an alr thankless job. Don't chase them into tuition centres, owise every parent hv to dig out more to coach our kids & they'll grow their wealth in comfortable air-conditioned environment - but parents pay.
Free carparking for teachers - sap sap sui lah -

Clean means no exception, it is not the money, it is the principle. Teachers are paid to do a job. Some do it better than others. There are also many bad teachers who would have been fired long ago in any other organisation.
