NUS / NTU medicine application 2018/2019

Thanks, he already done it on 2nd/3rd of Apr for YLL. As for LKC will be this Sunday. Yes, from past years, LKC released the first batch of offers as early as 23/24th of Apr. YLL was some where early May. does your child also applied this year? I think both med schools are excellent, if both offer, will likely select NUS.

Understand that YLL uses the lecture-tutorial system while LKC adopts a TBL (theme-based learning) approach. Which school the child chooses will depend largely on which teaching methodology suits him/her. Will leave it to son to decide which school he wants to join if he's fortunate to get both offers, as both medical schools are excellent schools.

Heard that YLL received close to 2000 applications and the school shortlisted less than half for FSA/SJT. Planned intake is around 320.

LKC shortlisted 398 applicants for MMIs. Planned intake is around 130.

That's an increase in intake of about 30 across the two unis. Good news for those applying this year. And those re-applying this year.

Is it true that a candidate cannot apply to the same medical school twice ? Do you mean those re-applying to another school this year (e.g. rejected by school A last year and re-apply to school B this year) ? Thanks..

Thanks..[/quote]You can't reapply to the same medical school if you've already been through the interview stage and was rejected. However you can try again under discretionary admissions.

After going thru the MMI introductory and course briefing today, looks like the TBL is more suitable for my son. But anyway, it is quite unlikely to be accepted by both medical schools for him

I know YLL wanted to adopt Teams-based learning as they sent their faculty members for TBL training some 2-3 years ago. However, YLL has not implemented TBL todate. I spoke to one of YLL's deans at the recent NUS Open House and he told me it is not easy for YLL to convert to TBL.

There was refreshments for candidates & parents too. The staff & students were helpful & friendly. The school does make candidates (& parents) feel welcome.

You are right. LKC did adopt a more friendly approach as compared to YLL. I was there for the briefing too. According to my son, the environment of the interview seems much better than YLL. Think LKC result will be released in the next couple of days reference to the past few batches.
