Hi all, my situation is abit different. I am Singaporean but my sons are not SC. DS 1 is p1 in 2019 so we will have to register this year. However due to foreigner status we will not qualify till phase 3. Husband is ACS old boy. Wondering if we can go for acs international and later on (once PR is finalised) transfer to ACS (j or p) in p2 or later. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

for Transfer amongst primary schools, particularly to popular schools like ACS, priority given to Sg children, usually.

there is a long wait list of Transfer students for both ACS schools, from P1 to P4 seeking Transfer, coming from Sg citizenship children, currently studying in local schools.

Hence, best that you contact ACS (Junior) or ACS primary up, directly : inquire if they have accepted any International student before, for Transfer into local schools, also ask what subject tests need to take to determine level of proficiency to join (if any), or everything must go through MOE instead, since your case originate from International school, that follow a different curriculum, from our MOE syllabus ( P1 to P6). They will guide you, on your inquiry.

example

suppose a Chinese student (from China) is very poor, in English. But, keen to study in Singapore.

After taking 4 subject tests, suppose this student aged 10 years old, ( by right should in Primary 4, going by the age group) is very weak in English : it is possible that end up, MOE / school can assign this "weak-in-English" student to study either Primary ( 2 or 3), instead of Primary 4 level.

Also, note that
whether enrolling your child for P1 registration, or seeking Transfer to inter-primary schools : it is the citizenship and profile of your child that matters. Not citizenship of parents.

In your case, since your son bear foreigner status, he can join local schools during Primary 1 registration, only under Phase 3.

However, Phase 3 entry into local schools : is controlled by MOE herself.

Have you already put in your application for your DS1’s PR? If so, the “least headache” way is to hurry up the PR process as much as possible. You confirm your husband is old boy of the primary school? Because if old boy of secondary school or JC, will not qualify for priority at phase 2A.

The reason why we left it till now is because we are living overseas all these while and only in the last two weeks hubby was offered a transfer to Sg… he will probably move there first maybe July and then kids and me will move probably 4th quarter of the year

I stay in the vicinity of Haig Girls and CHIJ Katong. I am deciding between these 2 schools and like the fact that Haig Girls has strong focus on art. Logistically, CHIJ Katong is more convenient. Parents of girls in CHIJ Katong, could you help to provide more information on CHIJ Katong in the following areas?

I understand that gymnastics is offered as CCA in CHIJ Katong.
1. Is participation strictly based on selection?
2. At which level do students get to participate in gymnastics?
3. Are lessons conducted by an external vendor?
4. Any fees payable?

Looking at the school’s term calendar, I noticed there are several Catholic events such as Family Mass, etc.
1. Are these events optional to non-Catholics?
2. How immersed would a child be in Catholics values? I understand that CHIJ Katong being a Catholic schools will inevitably promote Catholic values.

I see. For ACS Primary, your son would only have a confirmed place if:
- your hubby had already joined as an alumni member before July 2017 (to qualify under phase 2A1)
- if he had not, there may be balloting under phase 2A2 (if demand exceeds places)

If the former is true, then maybe it is worth expediting the PR application.

Otherwise, just don’t stress yourself and go straight to researching international schools. [btw: ACS International does not take in kids below 12. You may consider other international schools like SJI International which will take in your preschooler and primary school age kids - easier logistics for u]

International school year may start later (I’m not sure), so you may have more time to tie up all the loose ends overseas and settle your big move back to SG first. Undoubtedly the kids will have quite a bit of culture shock and adapting to do first. The schooling part will be another big transition so better to ease into it slowly.

I am not sure why you didn't register your sons at birth with Singapore Consulate / Embassy for they will be able to hold dual citizenship till age 22.

Nonetheless, be mindful that once the kids acquire PR status in this case, they would be required to serve NS.
