OR now is hisMathatir jealous of Spore success? Put roadblocks for Msia/Spore cooperation? Halt the rail connection to Spore (might even be delays esp for the One Road One Belt) stamping our economic growth? Develop an underground connection fr Port Klang to Pahang to facilitate shorter shipment time, that'll cut Spore out as entrepôt?
There'll be in-fighting very soon I figure & hope those working here will not be affected. Owise chaos!
No idea what the man is thinking having lived till that age. But he's surely paving the way for his dear son.

Malaysia's Mahathir Mohamad will be sworn in as the world's oldest elected leader after his opposition alliance pulled off a stunning election win, ending six decades of rule by a coalition he once led.
Malaysians celebrated the 92-year-old's unexpected victory over Prime Minister Najib Razak, whose popularity had plunged over rising living costs and in the wake of a multi-billion-dollar graft scandal at 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Mahathir led the Southeast Asian nation for 22 years and his unexpected return to the prime ministership ends the previously unbroken rule of Barisan Nasional (BN), the coalition that had
governed Malaysia since independence from Britain in 1957.
\"We are not seeking revenge ... what we want is to restore the rule of law,\" Mahathir said of Najib's scandal-plagued rule.
Mahathir appeared jubilant and sprightly at a news conference claiming victory overnight, even joking with reporters, and will have an audience with Malaysia's king later on Thursday.
The king will sign his letter of appointment as prime minister of Malaysia's constitutional monarchy during a ceremony at the royal palace in the capital, Kuala Lumpur.
Najib is also expected to address the media. He has not spoken publicly since the results were declared but a member of his Cabinet said they would accept the will of the people.
The stunning election outcome was expected to ruffle financial markets that were expecting a comfortable win for Najib and the BN.

I have no doubts that Tun re-emergence into the political scene has everything to do with Mukhriz Mahathir. There should be some shifting of personal alliances as well as uneasy alliances being formed, which will probably result in a reset in the dynamics of Malaysia politics.Mathatir jealous of Spore success? As for putting in roadblocks for Malaysia / Singapore relationship, doubt that will happen in the short term (and with respect to Tun, that could mean the rest of his lifetime). Notice the absence of his past Singapore-bashing rhetoric during GE14. He is a shrewd politician - he understands he is playing to a different crowd in PH (younger, more educated, sub-urban, more cosmopolitan and racially more distributed) as compared to UMNO / BN. Singapore is also intrinsically linked to two states that formed the bedrock of this Malaysian Tsunami - Penang and Johor. Unlikely to see Tun upsetting the apple cart. -
floppy:
Mahatir did not bashed Singapore at GE14 is because there is Najib to bash. Now that Najib is gone, he will revert to his old ways

We all know his jealousy on Singapore. A leopard never change its spots -

he is lucky to be around at 93...we don't have a strong enough leader to handle him :nailbite:

Pray for 2 things :
1. Wisdom of Spore new generation of leaders to face old Willy fox (he might 算账 with LHL for pally with Jip kor & get away with so much).
2. Wisdom for Sporeans to vote wisely in next election. Owise our own turf will be in chaos. That's what old Willy fox want to bring the news to LKY for bringing his son down! People's precious vote must be cast with mindful consideration.
Better chat with my kids, nieces & nephews. Long time ago in .... :rotflmao: -

LKY not around to handle this fox...LHL and najib so buddy.
our turf is not really stable. worrying issues now are
1) LHL may not be able to handle this old willy fox
2) new PM doesn't have weight either. -

Tun is an extremely egoistic person - that we all know (but that's probably a common trait in most politicians). Is he jealous of Singapore? Maybe. However, to assume him picking on Singapore is purely out of his jealously, is ignoring the context and time / era in which he operates in.
Mahatir did not bashed Singapore at GE14 is because there is Najib to bash. Now that Najib is gone, he will revert to his old ways

It's worthwhile noting that he didn't start off his premiership bashing Singapore. For e.g., he lifted the ban on exporting construction materials to Singapore (which allowed us to grow), allowed Singapore to acquire a portion of Malayan Railway land at Tanjong Pagar station for an expressway extension and affirmed that Malaysia would honour the 1962 Water Agreement to provide 250 million gallons of water per day to Singapore (which guaranteed our stability / survivability).
Relationship only worsen in the second half of his premiership. During that period, every time he bashes Singapore, he wins votes and consolidates his standing within UMNO. Thus, what should a relatively smart, shrewd politician do? Continue to bash Singapore, especially during election time - which is what he did in the past.
Fortunately (for us), he is heading a different coalition in a different era - where Singapore is less 'useful' as a bogeyman to win votes. Malaysia needs us, as much as we need them. Regardless of how he privately thinks / feels about Singapore, I highly doubt we will see the Tun of old, i.e. publicly chiding and bashing Singapore.
