I think the interview was conducted recently before the election as mentioned in the show

I watched and guess he is coming to haunt us soon.Anyone watch 焦点 on channel 8 last night?
Mediacorp interviewed Dr. M before the election. He said the water price at 3 sen is too cheap and must be reviewed if he won the GE.
The agreement to sell water to SG for 3 sen that run till 2061. -

2 years isn't recent.... but 2 years can also be recent. Time is relative.
Also, it's not difficult to understand why Tun said it the way he said it
The 1962 Water Agreement between the two countries has a provision for a review of the water prices after 25 years, i.e. in 1987. Malaysia consciously chose not to review the price in 1987 because someone thought Singapore would also revise its price of treated water (which someone admitted in 2002). Unfortunately for them (fortunately for us), the agreement is registered with the UN and is binding on both countries. Due to someone's decision, Malaysia has probably lost tens of billions or even hundreds of billions in potential revenue for the next 75 years.
Who is the \"someone\"? The someone is PM in 1987, i.e. the one being interviewed lor
He knows the agreement can't be 'reviewed' but he has to say it before the election in order to blunt a possible attack from Jib and friends. There are still scores of people in MY blaming him for missing the opportunity of earning billions of potential revenue from us.
More interesting for me is why Focus wanna whip out this interview now.
PS: For more info, kindly refer to former Foreign Minister, Prof Jayakumar speech in Parliament in 2002. He had done a very good job explaining (but apparently, very few people were paying attention). -

A whole lot of negativity here......
Yes, Tun M may not be as friendly to SG as his predecessor.
But Najib really hurt Malaysia, my friends who are Malaysians couldn't wait to oust him, as of the prior election in 2013 his BN coalition had already lost the popular vote. 1MDB was corruption and kleptocracy at it's worst. Time now to clean house at the police and courts.
The bad guy lost, that's got to be worth celebrating. :rahrah: -

Yeah. Irksome nonetheless. -
I think Dr M will replace GST with goods and service tax then increase the price of water to sg to cover For the loss of revenue ( via gst)
I am sure dr M knows the spore govt already making additional 30% more profit on the water sold to its citizens -

i think you are not aware that Johor have built their own water treatment plants and need not depend on ours.
“before the election” refers to an interview 2 years ago :skeptical:Grandypa:

We buy water at 3sen per 1000gallon. We sell them back at 50sen per 1000gallon. When they raise the water selling price, they will have to pay a higher buying price. :skeptical:
Considering that Johor depends on us to treat part of their water and Singapore is no longer 100% reliant on their water, not sure we should be that bothered. Tun is no mathematician but he can still manage simple arithmetic. He is also a shrewd politician who knows how to whip his electorate to support him.
But for 焦点 to throw out an interview from a long time ago (2 years is a long time in politics)? Probably still trying to do Jib gor a favour.
the electricity cost for them to treat water is much lower than us as they have own self produced crude oil, natural gas to generate electricity.
indeed, they can sell electricity to us at the rate cheaper than it cost us to produce electricity. -
