Are HCI students allowed to take Geog and History in Sec 3 & 4? (Instead of Lit?) This was popular among the Chinese High boys during my O level era of eeyons back lol 🙂 The four available humanities then were History, Geog, E Lit, C Lit.

can only share with you what was applicable in my son's time (2016/2017).

HP students will do all 3 humanities- Lit, geog, history. (not sure about C lit).

For normal IP students, they will do Integrated Humanities Core (IHC) (which is the equivalent of Social studies in O level mainstream), and Integrated Humanities Elective (IHE) (Hist, Lit or Geog). Both IHE and IHC are counted towards MSG.

I think BSP and SMTP have different humanities requirements. You'll be briefed when the time is right. 😄

Thanks Lexis! We'll find out when the time comes 🙂

My DS loves his Sec 1 History teacher - I'm not sure whether it is the novelty of a new subject or what, but he finds her extremely knowledgeable and engaging (and witty).

Sorry i can’t answer questions about any subjects. I am really hands off because i am out of the country mostly. But i know his English is strong and excel in Lit because his "ang mo" Lit teacher mentioned this in his progress report something like "very strong cognitive argument ability…" something like that. However I do read his teachers’ year end comment.

My son receives notification that he is selected to attend DSA interview for humanities category. There will be group interview and group activity. Can anyone share their experience in interview and group activity? What questions are ask and what activity they do in the past. Thank you so much.

The selection process took about 3 hours. It included group interviews in which random questions were asked (such as talk about a book you really liked), as well as a group activity to work together and present to the interviewers on the topic posed. There were also other activities to test the child's response and thinking. IMO, it was a unique and thorough selection process. Humanities is a new DSA domain in HCI (it only started last year), and there could be refinements this year. Let your DS be himself and enjoy the process. I know my DS did 😄 . All the best to your DS.

Thank you myteapot. What is the commitment if enter HCI via DSA humanities? Is it a must to take humanities specialisation?

They are free to choose their subject combination at the end of Sec 2, it is not a must to take up humanities program. However, for DS’s batch, all the DSA humanities students are in the student journalism unit where they will contribute articles for some of the school’s publication.
