Hi, I am new to this board and has a son born in 2014, also a daughter born in 2017. I am having a huge headache shortlisting primary schools for my son as we have just relocated back to Singapore. How do I begin my search for a school that has a holistic approach to education, and not just focus largely on academic pursuits? No preference on area yet as we are still looking for a place to buy. Thank you in advance for any advice.

You can consider ACS Junior as it's really quite holistic. If you're only eligible for Phase 2C, I suggest that you get a place within 1 km of the school to increase your chance. Historically those within 1 km are quite safe for ACS Junior.

He has a boy n girl. Is ace junior a co-ed?
No it’s not. But the strategy is to settle the boy first. Girls holistic schools are very easy to find, so his daughter will have no problem.

Holistic coed schools are too difficult to find. Please let us know if you ever hear of one good one.

If u are looking at ACS Junior, I'll assume u might consider other Methodist schools. There are quite a few co-ed Methodist schools to check-out. It'll depend on whether u are located to benefit fr the 1km.

        FairField Methodist Primary
        Paya Lebar Methodist Primary
        Geylang Methodist Primary

Do check out the lists under MOE website :-

Hi I’m new to the registration system. My DD will be going p1 in 2021. May I know if we can submit child name for multiple schools? Cause very worried if need to wait for ballot then if all slots taken means no more space? Can appeal?

Anyone know what is the parent volunteer criteria?

Now got new priority for moe kindergarten kids means tougher to enter?

          Thanks in advance.

Ps there is no club 2014 hence only can post via this one.

Hi welcome! You are in the correct thread. Anyway the birth year club threads are quite inactive lol.

We will try to help you here based on our experience (my DS born in 2010).

The new priority for MOE Kindergarten Kids is at Phase 2A2. Unless you are targeting a primary school that has a MOE Kindergarten tied to it, you don’t need to worry too much. You can find a list of such schools here: https://sg.theasianparent.com/p1-registration-2018-singapore-priority/

Parent Volunteers come under phase 2B. Criteria to join as PV is highly dependent on each school. When you have a target school for PV, maybe you can ask us more about that school over here? Or in the PV thread.

If you don’t do PV, then you have to go under phase 2C, any balloting is based on proximity to the school. Must wait for balloting results. If never get, then there is still phase 2C(Supplementary), will have schools with leftover places. If you still want a place in a school that is full, you can put child’s name on waitlist and wait...until got place open up.

Thanks for clearing my doubts zac's mum.

Understand that the new rule for moe kindergarten priority and that's making me extremely worried because the school I'm eyeing on has it within its premises.

To make it worst I totally missed the registration date for my DD *sigh*

But I'm not sure how it impacts yet based on last year statistics even need to ballot at phase 2C and many didn't get in due to oversubscribed even when they are less than 1km away. Now with this moe kindergarten new rule I'm at total loss.

Now I can only wait for them to open PV. Are we able to commit earlier? Say this year they only accepting born 2013 but mine is 2014?

              Thanks in advance.

Ah I see. Then yes the next best thing to do is try to PV for phase 2B.

You can try applying to the school earlier, there’s really no harm - you may even benefit. That’s what I did, emailed very early. Received a very nice reply from the principal saying that she really liked my enthusiasm but their school has a fixed timeline, so please submit again on a certain date. And apparently I was not the only kiasu parent who submitted earlier! So this special application date was made known to us who had enquired earlier. Those who did not enquire therefore did not know. On the actual date, all the application slots in the online form were filled within 24 hours. So being kiasu pays off.

It depends on what the school wants PVs to do. If be traffic warden or do art & craft, no need to talk what.

priority for PV is usually given to children, who are citizen. If your child is foreigner, unlikely to pick.

Depend on what kind of PV activities they looking for.

                        eg

If need to read storybooks aloud, or give talk during recess time to lower Primary school children in English/Chinese, to encourage students to eat more healthy fruits and vegetables : unlikely, to be considered.
