Is it possible to solve these without algebra? These are P5 Questions from past year exam papers for SA1.

I believe algebra is only taught in P6, so just curious how come these questions can be asked for SA1 of P5 :?

Ken and Patrick had $625 at first. After buying some books, the amount of money Ken has left is 4 times the amount of money he spent and the amount of money Patrick has left is 5 times the amount of money he spent. Find the amount of money Patrick had at first if they have a total of $510 left.

            Hi MathsGuru,

            1. A, B & C shared some sweets. A received 1/11 of the sweets. B received 1/4 of the number of sweets C received. When C gave away 104 sweets to be shared between A and B, they found that all of them had the same number of sweets. How many sweets were there at first?

            2. A, B and C shared a sum of money.
            A's share was 1 1/2 timess that of B and B's share was 1 1/4 times that of C.
            (a) what fraction of A's share was C?
            (b) If A gave B $19 and C $22, A would have as much money as C. Find the sum of money shared.

            Thank You.

                Dear maths guru

Please help me with the following question:

                1) The distance between village A and Village B is 360km. John drove from Village A to Village B and completed the journey in 4 hours. Peter drove from Village B to Village A and completed the journey in 6 hours. If both of them started the journey at 9.30am, at what time would they pass each other?

                2) Chive, Parsley and Thyme bought a present for their mother. Chive paid 1/3 of the total amount paid by Parsely and Thyme. Parsley paid 1/3 of the total amount paid by Chive and Thyme. If Thyme paid $60 more than Parsely, how much did the present cost?

                3) The ratio of the number of $5 notes to the number of $10 notes that Libby had was 5:3. She bought a dress for $65 and paid it with 7 pieces of $5 notes and some $10 notes. The ratio of the number of $5 notes to the number of $10 notes Libby had left was 3:2.
How much did Libby have at first?

                Thank you

Hi I have a speed qn. Can help?

Town B is located between Town A and C.
At 2pm, a train left Town B and travelled towards Town C.
2.5 hr later, another train left Town B for Town A.
At 6pm, the two trains were 569km apart.
What was the speed of the train travelling towards Town C if it was going at 35km/h faster than the other train?

Newbies here, with ratio problem to solve, which goes this way as below:

The ratio of the number of daisies to the number of orchids in Basket A and Basket B are 2:1 and 2:7 respectively. Basket A has 2/3 times as many flowers as Basket B.

                      (a) Find the ratio of the number of daisies in Basket B to the number of daisies in Basket A.

                      (b) When 18 orchids are moved from Basket B to Basket A, the ratio of the number of daisies to the number of orchids in Basket A becomes 8:7. How many orchids are there in Basket A now?

                      Thanks.
