Bluegal, i traveled by bus n train. i dun advise driving in hokkaido in dec as winter weather is v unpredictable
Hi, We are a bit late already until now have not booked any air tix... probably will just be doing a 7 days to 8 days Tokyo trip on the last week of December. Is there any chance that the air tix to Hokkaido will be cheaper in the later part of the year? Else I'll just book air tix to Tokyo during this Jun holiday.bluegal6:
If u're staying put in Hokkaido, can travel by train & local buses. Dec winter time abit challenging to drive. The year before last, my SIL was marooned in Hokkaido as airport close due heavy snow. Last year was also ano heavy snow year & my frd & family cldnt do much coz they cldnt drive in the thick snow. Four years back, we had a great time up in the snowy mountains but the pics of SIL & our photo of the runway was very diff in snow level & sunlight.
Info to chip in for yr planning considerations.
i had colleague who tried in 2016 and commented they wont do it again as it was too stressful, imagine driving at 20 to 30km per hour in the car for almost 2hrs plus and vision is bad .
Plsu we dunno Jap, dunno how to check weather forecast and high way may be closed due to heavy snow fall etc
Dec air tickets should be still in reasonably priced. For my past trips, i can only buy tickets in Aug after confirmed our work schedule. H'ever the earlier u buy, the better rates u get lor. -
Finally book my air tix from 22nd Dec till 31st Dec… Next gonna draft up my itinerary…

Hi. Is it easy to travel from Osaka to nagoya? Anyone care to share experience?
@ Stinzy Yes. It's very easy if u use the JR. If u can plan yr trip using super fast train which operates at peak hours. Do rmbr to pre-book yr seats. Luggage no problem, as they've space at both front & end for it. One thing I like is Japan's train are very well designed & sturdy for coat hanging, meals tray, etc If u're using overhead shelf, don't forget the belongings u put up there, as DH & kids completely forget after we alight. -
