All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Hello all,
I’m new to Kiasuparents…this may be asked before but please bear with me and help advise.
Is there any incentive to do PV for 2 schools for phase 2B eligibility? For example, I have shortlisted 2 schools within 2km of my place, and I apply and do PV for both schools, on the phase 2B registration window, will I be able to know whether school A or school B is oversubscribed and require balloting, before registration is closed? Then i will be able to decide to put my bet on whichever school that doesn’t require balloting. Hope you get what i mean.
Thanks -

Depends on the school. Best to call the respective schools to enquire. -

It is only worth doing PV if the school you’re eyeing does not require balloting for your distance. So you need to check the balloting history for that school for the past 5 years to be safe. The link is here (click on the various areas to find your 2 shortlisted schools):Hello all,

Have you found your answer? For example, if your target school historically needs balloting for 1-2km at phase 2B (yellow colour), then you’d be wasting your time doing the PV just for a gambling chance.
But if your target school historically shows white colour for phase 2B, then you’d almost definitely get a seat in that school upon completion of your PV.
If both schools also white, then you can PV at both if u wish, then select the one you like more (after observing the teachers and students carefully during that PV year). -
Are there any parent volunteers who did not manage to complete the required hours by 30 Jun?

Hi all, need some advice. I’m looking to apply for PV at NYP. My girl is born in 2016. Thus we will fall under registration in 2022 for enrollment in 2023. Is it too early to apply now? Or I can only apply 1 year before enrollment? Because I heard that one will need to clock at least 300 hours for PV in NYP to maybe get the PV letter. Also do my address need to be one which is within 1km of the sch to get a higher chance of being selected? Cause my current place is definitely >2km of the school now. Thank you in advanced.

300 hours??? I thought it was 80 hours, to be clocked within 2 years? -
Just google \"NYPS parent volunteer\" and you'll be able to find the answers instead of listening to all the fake news & rumours.

The NYPS PV form states 80 hours but that's for the current applications. Doubt it's going to increase to 300 hours when it reaches your turn though. -
Thank you zac’s mum & Zappy for the confirmation. Cause I heard from one of my ex colleague that this is the minimum hours to clock to get the PV letter from NYP. Scared me too. I read that most of the other school’s PV is 40 hours and NYP is 80hours. Phew. For a moment I was sweating. Oh wells, guess I shall apply for PV 2 years b4 enrollment.

300 is TNS/AT level.
No upper cap.
More hours = higher in rank.Zappy:
