Thank you for the article. I didn’t know that Lasik’s side effects can be permanent and the pain can be excruciating. It doesn’t look like it is worth it to do Lasik.

When you go to an ophthalmologist & you take note they themselves or colleges are only wearing glasses, does it not tell you sth?

I rmbr well known local ophthalmologist, medical book publisher & consultant in private practice used to run NUH & was one of the first docs who offered free eye treatments in 3rd world countries (then) like India & China wld many times be mobilizing his nursing staff (fr all 3 outfits), secretary at the publishing house & driver in hunting frenzies when he is in teaching sessions with patients & students. Then other docs explained tt lasik has its risks, so many do not go under lasik themselves.

It’s impt for me to accept myself & be content with what I’m given or how I’m created. Beauty is really in the eye of the beholder.

However, I do u’stand those who had to go thro inconveniences esp for some jobs. I’m fortunate my eyes is well adjusted to hard lenses, which gave me a better option to soft/gel-lenses which I tend to tear many or drop them into the basin drainage. With hard lenses, I didn’t hv to carry diff cleaning and rinsing lotions bcoz I cld just wash under the tap water & done with. I’m just fortunate coz not many hv eyes that can adjust to hard lenses due to dryness of the eyes.

I just never hv the courage to risk my eyes, my precious windows to the world, to lasik.

Age. You had 20 years which is good. My husband only did Lasik at 40 yrs old so he didn't have so many years before presbyopia hit.

Wah 20 years is a long time. I thought the procedure only caught on in the past few years with lasik clinics popping up even in the neighbourhood areas. But 20 years of perfect vision is worth it... the convenience of not putting spectacles and lenses and cost savings..

Presbyopia = lao hua? It's the same long-sightedness right?

True... I suppose every procedure comes with risks and below a certain percentage people think it is negligible and think \"it won't happen to me\".... but when it does it's so sad...
