I just wanna check if anyone knows if the balloting for phase 2B during 2012-2014 were exclusively for those more than 2km away? My son should be going in Phase 2B and we stay within 2km from the school. Need to see if we may need a plan B. Thanks.

May I know how does one apply for the endorsement letter? Any kind soul with a kind heart to share about this?

Applications for it have closed for this year. So, I hope you can just be 随缘 about it. It is not the end but another beginning.


Basically it is spelled out quite clearly. You need to be recommended by a SBF committee member. There are I think 16-18 of them. Maha Bodhi is a Buddhist School so if you are a Buddhist and have been active in buddhist related activities / volunteer’ing, you will basically become acquainted with one of them one way or another. Then it is a matter of whether the one(s) you are acquainted with is willing to endorse you.

If you had been actively accumulating the good karma, all it takes is just a phone call or WhatsApp message to arrange a meetup and sign, honestly. If you had not or are not aligned to the faith, then the Grassroots leader path will work best for you.

Got an SMS from MOE, stating that my DD secured a place in Maha Bodhi via Phase 1 .


And orientation is on 21 Nov 2018 – 830am

My 2 cents analysis and rant:


Feels like this year is going to be an anomaly year... 171 places taken up already in Phase 1 for MBS. Previous 12 years range was 120-150+ maximum. Birth rate up 5% in 2012 but appears that a lot were for no 2, 3, 4 or beyond in this dragon year and their elder siblings all congregate at the SAP schools (not just MBS) with the take up rate up 28.5% at MBS (i.e. Chinese all become more in the mood for love from mid 2011 to early 2012 to make dragons).

Last year had 101 places for 2B and 2C, and take up rate was 133 and 95 for Phases 1 and 2A only.

This year if Phase 2A application rate also up 28.5% will mean 122 applications to fight over the reserved 121 places = Balloting at Phase 2A for this school, which had been unheard of historically!

I thought my Phase 2B should be safe, but I must have a plan B now too.

If you are within 1km . U will definitely have a chance to join the balloting for phase 2B and 2C . If you are out of 1 km . Then really need a plan B .

I am within 1-2km unfortunately, so may not qualify for balloting even if places are limited. For past 3 years, not all the available places in phase 2B were all taken up and since this will have comprised those outside of 2km and including PRs, I thought I should be quite safe this year. But this year’s sharp spike of 28.5% Phase 1 take up rate against backdrop of population growth of only 5% has been unexpected despite the dragon year. Dragon very fierce… Parents kena burn. Lol
