APS is also popular cos it is consider a new sch. If you are staying nearer to APS, chances of getting in will be higher compare to RMPS. Mostly like to enter balloting under 2C as nearby have alot of new estates.

Thanks for the replies! Oh wow seems like RMPS is super competitive. How about APS then? I know its also very popular

It's better for you to be prepared. Please also consider a backup school.

My son is registering for P1 this year. We have GESPS and Blangah rise within 1km, and a few schools at 1-2km, like Radin Mas, Zhangde, Alexandra, Queenstown primary school. We have no priority, so chance is very low for Radin Mas, Alexandra, and even ZhangDe. Comparing Zhangde, Queenstown, and Gan Eng Seng, which school is a better choice in your opinion? My son likes to follow his peers on what to do, not much of his

own determination. So I think a school with good learning environment, and encouraging teachers will help. Appreciate for your opinion.

Why do you think you have a very low chance for Zhangde?

Many parents staying within 1 km of Alexandra and Radin Mas consider Zhangde as one of their backup schools. As such, your chance at Zhangde is not that low, looking at the statistics for the past few years.

Zhangde, Queenstown and Gan Eng Seng are all comparable in terms of standard.

How good are the teachers and learning environment will depends on the school principal, what is he or her focus and direction.
MOE now is no longer focusing on academic results, but on non academic as well. Perhaps you can look at what does these 3 schools have to offer in terms of CCAs.

I explored the 3 schools website and facebook. Queestown offers more info on website, and the PSG facebook page is very active. So maybe I can say queenstown may engage with parents more? Gang eng seng website has very little info, and limited choices of CCA. Zhangde offers the most CCA, and my son may like wushu, which he is learning now.
I have a good impression on queenstown, but saw some not so good remarks on the new principal... Still can't decide which one is my first choice.

If both are on par, go with the feeling to make decision.

Im very new to this whole pri sch registration process. Still at the reading up n research stage. After going thru the posts, it seems that many parents are going for their preferred choice of sch that may require ballot with a backup sch as 2nd choice if ballot fails.

Im looking at two schs RMPS (1-2km) n Cantonment pri <1km. RMPS im pretty sure chances r quite low. Mine will be for yr 2020 not 2019 though. But looking at past stats vacancy at cantonment pri is quite certain so wondering if i shd give RMPS a try?

Planning and research process start from earlier phases. I know general preference would be school that is near to your place, but please start from the parents' old school (2A1 or 2A2), or the child's sibling' school (1 or 2A2), other priority under phase 2B. then we look at phase 2C. Singapore Citizen has absolute priority over PR within each phase.

I would think that you already used onemap to determine all the schools within your proximity as well.

For 1-2km RMPS - dont think it stand a chance to have a balloting for 1-2km in 2020. For 1-2km to have a better chance in 2C, the Take up rate (TUR) needs to be around 60% until 2B.

Cantonment is safe within 1km for 2C SC

Do expand/widen your scope if you haven't considered them.
