looking at balloting history of MGS at BT...there is no balloting for phase 2A2 all these years, not even in 2006 (dragon year for year 2000). so it should be safe to register your daughter in your former school. affiliation will help a lot especially with the new AL grading system. it's like having a safety net. waking up at 6am for the school bus to reach at 620am is not that bad.Zappy:
Hi, I am an old girl of MGS Primary (Blackmores) and am likely to get in at phase 2A(2). But it's quite a distance from my place. School bus picks up at 620am for my area. However, I am also keen in Alexandra Primary School which is within 1km from my place. Would appreciate any advice as to which school to go for as I am now in dilemma. And what are my chances. Thanks in advance!! :thankyou:
6:20am is quite ok, rt?
I'd think having your daughter to go in to your alma mater would be a big plus.
Additionally, the affiliation to MGS when she is choosing sec schools in 6 year's time is another bonus.
do consider.
Thank you, Zappy & janet88! Just wondering, how important & helpful is affiliation? Many parents are very concerned about this. Thank you! -

I wouldn't say that people are very concerned but it is an obvious advantage.

If her subsequent PSLE results are very good, then she can still choose go into any school of her choice via PSLE results (or DSA). But with affiliation, she can get into the affiliated secondary school at a much lower COP. That lessens the pressure / stress since there is a safety net option available. I believe for MGS, that's 220 vs 250+ (?) which is a very big advantage. This will obviously be different in your daughter's year since it is the AL system (not T-score) but the basic concept should remain the same.
She's also not obligated to go into the affiliated school, but this just keeps all the options open until you need to make the decisions. -

Having a safety net is better than none.
If the child does very well, he/she can go to any school and not necessarily the affiliated secondary. The cut off point for affiliated secondary is quite a big ‘discount’ compared to those without affiliation and also competing with others to get into the school.
Affiliation takes away some stress when taking PSLE. -

As expected. Chinese people like to give birth to Dragon boys.
I wonder whether St Nicks need balloting for 2A1. Hopefully not. -

P/S: you can’t really pick and choose gender. -
Nan Hua stats is updated. No balloting required for Phase 2A1.
