Alexandra Primary

Hi, I am an old girl of MGS Primary (Blackmores) and am likely to get in at phase 2A(2). But it's quite a distance from my place. School bus picks up at 620am for my area. However, I am also keen in Alexandra Primary School which is within 1km from my place. Would appreciate any advice as to which school to go for as I am now in dilemma. And what are my chances for P1 2018 registration. Thanks in advance!! :thankyou:

Hi Kittypie, if never remember wrongly, all the past year's within 1km got in (Can someone kindly confirm on this part?). Since you are within 1km, in the vent need to ballot, you will surely get to ballot also. Hope it helps =). -
Thanks so much, Dino!! Think last year, within 1km all got in but the 2 years before that, within 1km needed balloting. But school wise, which is a better choice? Is distance really that important? Some say 620am is not too early. Thank you!

Hi Kittypie, don't think can ever achieve an apple to apple comparison bet ALPS & MGS. MGS is a brand name school while ALPS is still a new school. In most pple's mindset, they would have already concluded which is better just by hearing the name alone, regardless of what programs that are so fantastic or that are only unique to ALPS.
I think end of the day, it depends on your time and resources to make arrangements to go to and come back from school. Distance is definitely impt as it will mean whether the child can get more rest and sleep. Its going to be 6 years.
There are some good things that parents have talked abt ALPS. Maybe can read thru MGS and ALPS forum to make a more informed decision.

Waking up at 6.20 am is considered fine. However, you have to take into consideration the transport arrangement when your girl reaches P3. Students need to stay back in school for one reason or another.
A plus point for MGS is its affiliation to the secondary school.
If distance is really a concern to you, consider other schools in Bt Merah. You need to also consider your risk appetite, i.e. if you don't get into APS in P2C, how comfortable are you with these other schools in Bt Merah? -

Hi all, need your advice of the followings:
There are few choices of schools in my area and we are SC under 2C phase:
1. Alexandra PS (5mins walking distance) - preferred but understand that balloting might be required for SC<1km
2. Zhangde PS (~0.85km) - need balloting for SC<2km? Need to take bus there, also there are locations where no shelters. problematic if raining. For Zhangde, I heard some negative feedback from some existing parents…so not sure if it’s just for a particular teacher. Any comments for ZD?
3. RVPS (~1.4km) - need to take bus and there might be balloting for SC<2km. But the bus ride will be along my way to work.
Our main choice of criteria is actually close to home, regardless the rating of school, as we are working parents and totally rely on helper for the kids. Since APS is so close to home, our current view is that we may go for APS first to participating the balloting. If we fail, our backup choice might be Queenstwoon PS (<2km) but not sure if there are still places left for 2CS due to dragon babies.
Another choice is we keep monitoring of the registration rates of APS, RVPS and ZD on the day, and decide on the day to choose a safer option.
Your comments would be much appreciated. -
For parents currently enrolling or already enrolled their kid(s) in Alexandra, can you share which After School care you have signed up with? I’m struggling to find one

There is a student care centre based at ALPS, so if your child gets into that one he/ she can seamlessly hop over after school. I have a friend whose son is there, and he says it is boring.
Near to ALPS there is a newly opened student care centre called Canopy. Programme is quite good, in my humble opinion.
