Is there DSA really for JC?

Yes u can apply for DSA into JC during Secondary 4, if u wish to get in via your talents instead of via O level results.

I don’t think it is very common though. My niece and her parents didn’t even consider it. Maybe they didn’t know. She ended up missing AJC’s cutoff point and chose Poly instead of a bottom-tier JC.

DS estimated there are about 50+ DSA students in RJC in current JC1. They joined the orientation together with IP students. As they were still in their secondary school uniform, they can be identified easily. 50+ students are not many considering the cohort size is about 1300.

How did your DS estimate got about 50+ DSA students in RI in current JC1 ?

IP students started ‘early’ orientation in mid-January together with DSA students. JAE students only joined them in February. So, those students not wearing RI or RGS secondary school uniforms in January are definitely DSA students.

During the ‘early’ orientation, the IP students were grouped based on their Year 4 classes. There were about 2 DSA students assigned to each class. There were 14 classes from Year 4 RI and assuming there were 14 classes from RGS, the number of DSA students were approximately (14+14)*2 = 56 students.

Can I kaypoh a bit and ask for some names of the secondary schools uniforms he spotted?


Just curious to see if Raffles family really walks the talk of not being elite and opening up to various backgrounds. Would be nice to hear of some neighborhood schools kids got in to RJC based on their talent.

:? I don't think there is DSA based on background. If there is, I am sure MOE will not approve it and the Principal will get into trouble. All DSA is based on talent in music/arts/sports. DS never met any DSA student that came in based on academics but according to him all DSA students that he knew are 3 pointers. They actually can get into RJC based on their O level results instead of DSA.

DSA is never on whether the applicant is from neighbourhood school or not. I don't think it matters to RI which schools their students are coming from. I don't know where you heard that RI doesn't open up to various background. It is strange. :?

Zac’s mum and phtthp, the orientation was half a year ago so DS can’t recall which secondary school uniforms he saw. Anyway, he doesn’t know many uniforms especially girls uniforms. But he knows there are DSA boys in soccer, hockey, track & field. He is sure that there are other DSA students in other CCAs. It is just that he doesn’t know them.

Did the new rule (refering to above press article) suggest wef start from which year : then RI start to implement or take in (P6 or Sec 4 students) from normal, ordinary ( primary / Secondary ) neighbourhood schools via DSA, with DSA talent, so as to "anti-elitism" ?


Or

is it implemented via the new AL PSLE Banding system, wef from 2021 onwards, for 2021 P6 DSA applicants (born 2009 onwards) ?

Or

is it implemented from 2019 onwards next year, since now MOE centralised control of ALL DSA Application forms received, and MOE controlling All the DSA processing, to control allocation (and routing) to different DSA schools for evaluation (consideration), for 2019 DSA applicants (born 2007 onwards) ?

The article just states that they reach out to heartland schools to encourage the students to apply for RI but surely the school is not expected to favour those students over the other students. That would just turn into a charity move and has nothing to do with talent/ merit. Once the students come in for trials/ interviews, the school background should not have any bearing except for scholarships/ bursaries to help those who need assistance to pay fees.
