In recent years, NY always has only 20/20 vacancy left in the 2b/2c.... why are there so many applicants in phase 1 and 2A these years?

Any insight thought?

Because of dragon baby...

Don’t think so...
2016 is lowest live birth in past few years but NY still left 40 seats only...
This year's registration is for those born in 2012. Those born in 2016 are only 2 years old!

My guesses:

The more kids you have, the more \"worthwhile\" to move house, PV etc to cheong for a place?
When first kid couldn't get in, try your luck W 2nd, 3rd, 4th kid...until someone gets in?
Give birth to a few more kids since older 1 already studying there so don't waste the phase 1/2a2?

Alumni all flocked back?

Heng that MOE has the hindsight to reserve 20+20 slots for non-related applicants.
NYPS Phase 2B in 2019 will be very tough. GLRs + PV > 30+.

Apart from last year, swee swee 20 applicants, that is normal situation for NYPS in past years.

Actually, when the first kid don’t get in, you are generally screwed.

You may want to try your luck with kid 2, 3 or 4 but that would mean giving up Phase 1 priority as well as running the risk of kids being placed in different schools if you get screwed a second time in Phase 2CS (even if kid 2, 3 or 4 get in, there’s no guarantee that NYPS will accept the transfer of the older child).

The bottom line is don’t get fixated with a school and miss the forest for the tree.

Yup. My friend failed to get in Phase 2B for his first child and planned to try again for his second child, but in the end he decided to save the trouble and go for Phase 1.

Yet there are parents who finally get their 3rd kids into the choice school after 2 failed attempts earlier.

There will always be all sorts of people.

The real irony would be... the first 2 kids in the non-choice school did better than the 3rd kid in the choice school 😆

I’m wondering what are my chances of getting in to Nan Chiau Primary if I’m staying 1-2km. Will be registering under Phrase 2B but am wondering what are the chances… Will i sure get in if i move to within 1km?

On a \"bad\" year (like Dragon and upcoming Horse, Goat), you won't stand a chance (ballot < 1km).
As snake year has one of the lowest birth rate, you would probably stand a very good chance of at least getting to ballot.

i hv 2 choices for 2019 registration.

1. plmgs (>2km SC)
2. chij oln (1km SC)
both intending to use my mum address as she will be main caretaker.
What are my chances for phase 2C if i do not do PV for these 2 school?
its tough for me to take time out to do PV.
thks!

If you use your mom's address, you will fall into 1-2km category. However, both schools are quite safe. CHIJ OLN will be safer as they have more seats for 2C. Now you just need to decide whether you prefer a Catholic school or Methodist school. You can consider the affiliation to secondary school onward.
