For P1-2, I would say hardly any homework and stress. My girls had loads of fun in RGPS.

          P1-2 : zero stress.

These 2 years are honeymoon years, very little homework. Hence, best time to build your two languages foundation well.

          P4-6 : are stressful years.

P4 is stressful, due to year-end streaming into P5 classes, for Mainstream classes’ streaming. GEP : no need to stream, at end of P4.

P5 & P6 faced high stress : due to prepare Psle. As you know, Rgps is Not affliated to Rgs.

That’s great news! I was freaking out about them being competitive as I’m not like that and I want DD to enjoy her childhood years.

As mentioned they are not affiliated with rgs, so where do most of their students go to? I’m sure not all goes into rgs

I think it very much depends on your daughter’s personality. My 2 girls don’t feel any stress at all, even when their results fall below the teacher’s benchmark. I am definitely more stressed than they are.

Based on last few yrs PSLE result, more than 50% achieved T-score 250 and above. Besides going to RGS, they joined SCGS, MGS, Crescent Girls, Cedar, NJC, NUSH etc.

Thanks for all your replies. I’m going to apply for phrase 2C for DD. Let’s hope she gets in.

Based on last few yrs PSLE result, more than 50% achieved T-score 250 and above. Besides going to RGS, they joined SCGS, MGS, Crescent Girls, Cedar, NJC, NUSH etc.

In recent year, 50.x % of Rgps girls who scored T-score 250 and above qualify, to enter IP.

The more popular IP Secondary schools that Rgps girls often chose are
( RGS, Nanyang Girls High, National Junior College) IP, although a handful also chose NUS High Diploma, besides choosing (Cedar, St Nick, SCGS, Dunman High) IP, plus a few also chose MGS (IB).

Although some qualify for IP programme (with 250 and above), however some chose the O-level programme (OP) instead of IP, as some preferred
(Cedar, MGS, St Nick, SCGS) OP.

MGS (OP) and Paya Lebar MGS (OP) : are affliated to Anglo-Chinese Junior College (A-level). They have affliation advantage (privilege), after O-level.

Based on 2017 PSLE batch, Cut-off-point (COP) were

                    i)

MGS (OP, school fees > $ 300 per month, independent school ) :
                    254, highest T-score admitted (OP) was 263

                    SIS info
                    http://sis.moe.gov.sg/SchoolDetails.aspx?schoolCode=7030

MGS (OP) : affliated to Anglo-Chinese Junior College

                    ii)

St Nick (OP, school fees around $30, per month, government aided school ) :
                    253, highest T-score admitted (OP) was 276

                    http://sis.moe.gov.sg/SchoolDetails.aspx?schoolCode=7118

St Nick (OP) : affliated to Catholic Junior College

                    iii)

SCGS (OP, school fees > $300 per month, independent school ) :
                    250, highest T-score admitted (OP) was 257

                    http://sis.moe.gov.sg/SchoolDetails.aspx?schoolCode=7014

No affliation for SCGS (OP), to any Junior College

                    iv)

Cedar (OP, school fees around $30 per month, government school) :
                    249, highest T-score admitted (OP) was 265

                    http://sis.moe.gov.sg/SchoolDetails.aspx?schoolCode=3004

No affliation for Cedar (OP), to any Junior College

In past years, Cedar COP usually go above 250.
Last year 2017 case at 249 (exceptional), below 250.

I’m sure not all goes into Rgs
In recent year, although 50.x % of Rgps girls scored (250 and above), qualify to enter IP, that means remaining (balance) of 49.x% below 250, got admitted into O-level schools.

That means, by T-score road (route) -
Half qualify to enter IP (those scored 250 & above), the remaining half (below 250) qualify for O-level curriculum (OP).

But then, not All with (250 & above)
eventually chose IP, because some still eventually chose the traditional OP road.

                      example

there were some Rgps girls, who scored 254. They did not receive any CO, from DSA.

                      At 254 -

                      a) 254 was below RGS Cut-off-point (260) so, .... cannot enter RGS (IP).

if cannot enter RGS, also cannot enter Nanyang Girls High IP (264 or 265).

                      b) 254 was also below other IP schools Cut-off, like (National Junior College whose Cut-off was 256, and Dunman High whose Cut-off was 255).

                      c) they qualify to enter Cedar IP (254), SCGS IP (252), Temasek Junior College IP (249).
So, they can choose any of the above three IP schools.

                      d)
However, Cedar Girls Secondary (located at Cedar Avenue) is too far for some -
so, they didn't choose Cedar (IP) affliated to Victoria Junior College, although they do qualify, at 254.

                      e) Temasek Junior College (IP) :
although qualify, but they were not keen. Perhaps due to distance, or for some other reasons.

                      f) SCGS (IP):
although they qualify at 254, but they were also not keen, as Eunoia Junior College affliation is kind of still relatively new, in terms of her A-level performance (results), yet to be seen (proven).

                      g) in the end, they chose OP schools instead. Some eventually went to MGS (OP 254), CHIJ St Nicholas (OP 253), SCGS OP, etc.

On the other hand, some who scored (Below) 250 -
also managed to enter IP schools, through DSA.

Some girls (below 250) went to

                      i)

                      Cedar
                      249, highest T-score admitted (OP) was 265

No affliation for Cedar (OP), to any Junior College

                      ii)

                      CHIJ Toa Payoh Girls Secondary
                      243, highest T-score admitted (OP) was 251

                      iii)

                      Crescent Girls

No affliation for Crescent (OP), to any Junior College

                      iv)

                      St Margaret :
                      241, highest T-score admitted (OP) was 250

St Margaret (OP) : affliated to St Andrew Junior College

                      v)

                      CHIJ St Theresa’s Convent :

I’m sure not all goes into Rgs
After PSLE, as you can see, only half of our P6 Rgps girls (50.x percent) cohort were able to enter IP schools, going by T-score road (route), if they had not accepted DSA offer.

The remaining (balance) half, 49.x percent , a big figure, still ended up in O-level Program (OP) schools.

Some Rgps girls, however, chose SAP OP schools.

Certain SAP OP schools are strict, they do require a compulsory (Secondary 1 to 4) Higher Chinese curriculum.

                        example

Chung Cheng High (OP, CCM )
At CCM, it is compulsory to do Higher Chinese, from Sec (1 to 4)

However, if a student cannot cope with the demands of HCL, as HCL at Upper Secondary is tough (difficult), at the end of Sec 3, during Parents-meet-Tr session, after consultation with their Chinese subject Tr, CCM student can drop HCL.

                        Why is CCM, popular ?
CCM is popular, because of affliation to Nanyang Junior College. (NYJC)
NYJC is one of the Top JCs - amongst the few, rare Non-IP JCs.

(do go into each of the schools' website to read their respective FAQ, concerning Higher Chinese requirements)

                        For Higher Chinese, at PSLE

                        Distinction is >=80 marks : +3
                        Merit is 65 to 79 marks : +2
                        Pass is 50 to 64 marks : +1

Pupils who offer Higher Chinese (HCL), at PSLE
                        - are ranked among the top 10% of the PSLE; or

                        - are in the top 11% - 30% band, who met the language criteria (i.e. an A* grade in HCL, or at least a Merit in HCL)
may opt to study HCL, at secondary schools.
