What The:
Zeit:
I think main reason is because it has no affiliation.

Not entirely due to that. Could be because RGPS takes in girls only.

Look at other co-ed schools - Ai Tong, Pei Chun, Henry Park, Pei Hwa Presbyterian, Kong Hwa, Rulang, Hong Wen, Rosyth & Gongshang which have no affiliated secondary schools. They have exactly 20 / 20-odd vacancies left as of today.

OT: Ironically, it's the mission schools with generous affiliation discounts that still have a lot of vacancies left.

Many parents prefer co-ed primary schools, as their younger sons and daughters can benefit later. A lot of hassle for busy people to take leave for this chore.

Or not many HDBs around the region?
I think best to compare schools with a good co-relation.

In close competition with RGPS (270 total, no affiliation, girls'):

1. Overlap of <1 km catchment area:
NYPS - 390 total, affiliation, co-ed

2. Overlap of 1-2km catchment area:
SCGS - 200 total, affiliation, girls'
MGS - 210 total, affiliation, girls'

I would think given the competition around, with no affiliation bonus for sec school, there's no incentive to choose RGPS over the schools above if you qualify for any of the earlier phases.

At Phase 2C, I would see no reason to pick RGPS over NYPS unless you die-die want a girls' school without ballot and under 1km. If I don't mind the distance (not that far) but still keeping to a girls' school, I would pick SMPS (not so great with the temp school though) or CHIJ OLQP. Both schools are about a couple of (direct) bus stops or less than 5 MRT (DTL) stops away.

Twincam:

Just curious - why is there still more than 100 places for RGPS given that it is quite a well known school?

Does this mean asg citizen less than 1km (or even 1-2km) will get a place in 2C?

Historically it has been like that. Perhaps just 5-10min drive away there are other primary schools with affiliation for girls.
1). NYPS
2). MGS
3). SCGS
If RGPS is affiliated to RGS, I guess will be a different story liao.

Plus RGPS intake is huge. It has vacancies for 270 girls. While SCGS/MGS around 200 while NYPS probably takes in around 200 girls (intake of 390 but itโ€™s a co-ed school)

BINGO.

RGPS is only same-same in name with RGS, but share no relationship. If there's affiliation, will be another hot school already.

Yes the one who moved to GEP in another school is a former student of both schools.

Hence he carries the benefit for his siblings and his children.

Eg.your younger child is eligible to register for both schools as his older sibling is/was a student at those schools. Phase 1 or 2A2. You would need the report card or result slips of the first school as the PSLE cert is obviously only indicating the second one, the graduating school.

Justbear:

im curious those who eventually got into GEP another school, would he/she be considered as Alumni for both of the schools then?

Some school like Catholic and CHIJ St Nicks have kids dropped out from previous phases? Seems slightly more than the minimum 20 available.

I hope MOE will publish the total applications daily for Phase 2C, starting today. so that parents can monitor and decide whether whether to go for the 1st option, 2nd or 3rd..

same goes for river valley...if it's affiliated to the secondary school, the enrollment will be hotter.
