      Twinny:
      Hi Parents,

If any of you are looking for used textbooks and assessment books for Cat High sec 1 and 2, please feel free to email me at [email protected] as my DS would like to sell them to juniors (to fund donations to charities). He keeps his books very clean and tidy, so they are almost like brand new. :thankyou:
just curious... does the boys use their textbooks much in sch?

Every year there are many who does not make it to school team or any position in their CCAs. Spoken to teachers and they share that some will pick up and try again and some will go through the motion for their CCA. I wonder how to even stay motivated if teachers do not pay much attention to these group of students. Maybe there won’t even be any form of encouragement? Maybe teacher does not bother much and does not take action even with feedback given?

For such cases, how to encourage our DS to even stay motivated? Will passion die off if lack of encouragement and then end up going through the motion eventually? Hmm…

          Hi snggy

I guess it depends on the CCA. In my opinion, this "school’s" emphasis on CCA isa mixed-bck of worms.

Apparently, they placed a lot of emphsize on their CCA. My dd is in the aethetics, sometimshe’s up to his brim with stress and business over the CCA. AND I do noticed, this school DO CHOKE the students to death sometimes. With their lousy time tables of exam and Common TEsts periods, "coinciding" with each CCA so nicely, that the students only has one week of
"rest" between busy periods of their CCA and common tests !

When Common Tests takes up percentage of the overall year end contribution, the CCA still continues on for Term 1 and
Term 3. However the CCA stops during Term 2, why cause its mid-year ? There is inconsistency, cause Term1, Term 2 and Term 3 pickup 15% each of the total year ! So why only no CCA during the mid year ? No sense, right ? Full of inconsistency right ?

We need to pray that our dds are not killed by this school lousy time management ! Whoever in charge of these time-planning are insidiously planning to murder our children !

So if you are talking about the teachers do not really bother about the CCA. Thank God, they are the angels in the school !

Ya, strangely this term cca continues with the common test. I actually forgot if it was so all the time. My elder son’s CCA is less demanding over the years so I don’t feel the impact. My younger one is sports and it is HORRIBLE. By the time he is back, he is dead and tired. Totally unable to do any revision. Tough balance between passion and studies.

                Hi,

I like to find out more about the subject combination selection in year 2 & JC1, and the sports CCAs.

                (1) In year 2 and JC1, are the students allowed to choose any subject combinations or there are pre-determined ones? What are the subject combinations for year 2 and JC1?

                (2) In year 3, how many students can take triple Science (Pure Bio + Chem + Physics)?

                (3) CHS offers only Pure Science?

                (4) In JC1, triple science or double maths double maths is not offered?

                (5) For sports CCA, can anyone join or only those in the school team can join?

                Thank you!

                  Hi furfur,

Selection of subject combination is only applicable in Y3 and Y5(JC1). CHS offers only Pure Sciences. Students can take triple Science in Y3 and Y4 so long as they are interested and have performed relatively well in the Y2 exams. According to MOE regulations, students can only take either Chem and Phy or Chem and Bio combinations in JC (including IPJC) but not all 3 Sciences. They can choose to take double Math in JC ( H2 Math and Further Math ) if they have the interest and aptitude for it.

I can only help to answer the Secondary School part.
That’s right. Choose subject combi at end of year 2. The combi is for year 3&4.
                    Cannot randomly form own combi.
There are 4 fixed subject combi.
No quota per combi ie as long as you qualify you can choose that combi. All depends on Year 2 results.
Eg my DS is doing Triple science & more than 40 students qualified for that, so DS’s class (whole class) & another half class are doing triple sciences.
The students moved around to go to their respective subjects throughout the day.

with the boys in such a good sch, only 1.5 class takes triple science? is that based on the results n do they try to push more kids to do triple sciences? what is the qualifying criteria?

Triple science option is no longer popular for many students. At A Level, you can only do 2 sciences due to the contrasting subject requirement. As such, very little practical point in pursuing triple sciences unless that's really your interest.
