The maximum number of H2 subjects you can read in JC is 4. Hence Computing won't be popular as it means taking up one of the four H2 subjects. Each H2 slot is 'precious'.
2 is a decent score I thought? heehee

The minimum requirement forA levels is 3H2 1H1 content subject, one of which must be contrasting. Even if you do 4H2, your worst H2 will be "downgraded" to a H1. A large number of HCI kids do 4H2 because it makes a difference when it comes to scholarship applications (something about Academic units…) but there are also a number of kids who do 3H2 1 H1. HCI has its own internal criteria for deciding this. IIRC you need a minimum MSG to do 4H2 and cannot have taken any re-exams in sec 4.
Typical Sci combination will be P/BCME (physics or bio, Chem, Math and Econs). Arts students usually do H/GELM (hist or geography, econs, lit and maths). HCI’s JC website has some info on what combinations will be offered and etc, but all this may change by your son’s time, so perhaps just take it as a guide.
2 is good, esp if only in sec 1! keep it up. -
Hi,
My DS is in Year 2. Infocomm is his passion. May I know if a Double Math, Physics and Computing combi is possible in Year 5? -

I don't know if this is a finalized list but Double Maths, Physics, Computing will not satisfy the contrasting subject requirement. -
Hi,
Does anyone know if third lang result is automatically included in the year-end MSG or if the child has a choice whether to include or exclude it? Will the choice in year 1 be applied to years 2-4 as well? -
Thank you very much, Lexis.
Your table is a great help! Seems like if you take CP in Year 5, you are headed only for Computing in Uni, as Physics or Chemistry would be required for engineering courses. Is a great combi though if that’s DC’s strength/interest. Will see how this all pans out.

yeah.. well. by JC they have their own opinions on what to do/study, and as parents, we can only advise and support. Interest is very important because JC is tough! -

Thanks What The. It is nice to have a choice

My take is that interest is more important than course popularity. Indeed, at this age, is almost impossible to get the boys to do anything they don’t want to. If one is lucky enough to even find a passion, one should go for it!
