No la... it wont change so fast.

The current syllabus change was also announced long ago - in time for the students to get used to it and also for the teachers to implement the changes.

I think if you go and check the MOE syllabus, they announce it (Science) for the 2014 P3 cohort. Maths was announced for the 2013 P1 cohort.

the syllabus doesn't change so fast. daughter's batch was the last one using 2008 science syllabus.

      :yikes:
      2008 to 2014 = 6 years
      2014 + 6 = 2020 ????? :lightrod: πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™

But then now P3.....should not be affected by any change liao. πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™

Ya, this yr PSLE is using the 2014 Science syllabus, but this was already announced when my kid was in P4, so the last 3 yrs, the students hv been learning that. The changes are also not that big - 90% the same, I think. So no need to worry about all these. I think there are bigger/ more things to worry about in P6 - DSA, PSLE, Prelims, children's mental stress levels, parents mental stress levels too πŸ™‚

parents' mental stress is never ending.
every child is different...so how much hand holding is dependent on the child. prelims is important if using DSA.

daughter took psle in 2016. that was the last year p6s got to enjoy 50% MCQ / 50% OE.
psle oral should be conducted next week. remember no chocolate, nothing spicy, fried or heaty. lots of water.
enjoy the weekend before ramping up for prelims.

I thought schools will need it for DSA? when kids were taking prelims, I didn't stress them...but to advise them to take it as a test. but you know school prelims are set so tough and demoralising.

Prelims is around this time of the year. A month or so before psle.

Won’t be used for DSA purposes but I suppose more important as a gauge of how ready the child is to take on the big one coming up.

prelim is important because in the event a P6 student fall sick during actual Psle, do badly in certain papers (subjects), or fail the actual Psle paper: then, they will fall back on Prelim results.

sometimes u wont know, because during exam period, some students cannot take psle stress, so they fall sick easily. And virus may spread, inside the classroom, esp if one immune system is low

based on Seab exam timetable : the last 2 compulsory papers are Normal Chinese and Science. Not all will be taking Higher Chinese (not compulsory to All p6 pupils)

last year (2017): some students fall sick towards end of psle, end up these 2 papers (subjects) they did badly.

to answer your question, why prelim impt in DSA, in this case, suppose the P6 student had DSA by Science academic domain -

if the student didn't receive any DSA offer, eg : the outcome is DSA Rejection, then doing badly in Science during psle, will lower his overall T-score, to choose (enter) Sec school.

the other way round : suppose the student had been offered & accepted a CO (Science), doing badly during Psle in Science - wont reflect well upon him, esp when he had entered the Sec school, via Science CO.

thats when Prelim (Science) results have to be looked into

Usually, I will go through the main points of every subjects before the exam dates.
But this prelims, I left my DD totally on her own.
If she didn't do well, it will be wake up call for her.
If she did well, it will be a consolation to me that PSLE might not be so scary? Fingers crossed :xedfingers:

prelims are set so tough till kids are demoralized. but it's a wake up call for them.
prelim oral should have been over. good luck for your orals next week.
