      Hi zenn74

I am a tutor at LCentral. I wouldn't like to comment on one over the other, but as the assessment is free at both schools, you could consider taking your child for an assessment at an LCentral branch nearest your place. The teacher would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

      😎

Hi, brought my gal for the assessment n was recommended for Foundation. Somehow, i feel that the centre prefers to start kids b4 4 on foundation b4 promoting to launchpad

just curious, what is the requirement to be in launchpad program?

      Hi zenn74

Actually the programs in LCentral are ability based, however very rarely, the teacher may feel that a very young child should start at the Foundations level even if they are borderline candidates for Launchpad. This is because other activities are also used to enhance the lesson for the younger child, taking into account their level of concentration and vocabulary, enunciation and ability to participate in a classroom setting. The younger ones have a ball in the Foundations class! (As do the teachers!) The teachers are also able to cater to each student individually, so for an advanced Foundations student, the teacher could start to introduce Launchpad activities to him/her.

Generally speaking, a child should be confident and independent (not too shy, or likely to cry), have access to first sounds in words and be confident holding/using a pencil before being promoted to Launchpad.
However, it should be stressed that your child would not remain in a class that he/she does not need to be in. Regardless of age, the child will be promoted if the outcomes are achieved.

        Hi all,

My 6 years old gal is in ICR in West Coast Plaza since Dec 2009. It was OK initially with a male ang mo teacher but he left suddenly for good due to some family issues and an ang mo female teacher took over. She was stricter and don't play games with the children. My gal's interest level went down. The new teacher was not receptive to suggestions from parents and was late for class at times. Well, I think the teacher is a very important factor in determining the progress of your child's learning and I'm planning to change her class soon 😞

Can anyone recommend a better teacher in any branch in the West? I'm also open to a new center.

          Hi,

how about ICR at West Coast Plaza? Any parent send their children there?

          :?:
          Hi Celyw,

My gal was with ICR West Cost Plaza... I didn't really have a good experience with the new teacher. She won't entertain you after the lesson unless you make an appointment with her. Today, I just saw 2 spelling errors in my gal's workbook that were not corrected by her in last week's class. I was really disappointed with their standard/quality 😞

Just to share with all of you that I was extremely disappointed with the standard at ICR@West Coast Plaza branch. 2 weeks ago, my girl came back to tell me the teacher could not finish the 3rd story in class, which is the most difficult and longest story of all. So the poor mummy will have to spend time going through the incomplete lesson with her at home and paying her hard-earned money to the irresponsible teacher. This is the 3rd bad experience I’ve got with the teacher.

So last week, I finally made a decision to stop her lesson at ICR and switch to LCentral. And to my surprise, even the person managing the centre did not bother to ask me for the reason of withdrawal and just passed me a form to fill up.

I’m not sure if anyone has any bad experience from the same centre? I hope that LCentral can give my girl a better learning environment to prepare her for the coming P1.

              Anway, just my luck.

Hi, are you referring to ICR P1 program? If so, I believe you have to request for a meet up session with the teacher to clarify your doubts and learn more about the teaching methods and your son's progress. I did that when the ICR teacher rejected my question after her class and ask me to make separate appointment in advanced for her. I was quite upset but was left with no other choices.

I really feel for you and I seriously think you should understand in detail what is happening to judge if the methodology is suitable for our P1 syllabus here. I read from some posts that ICR primary syllabus is not exam driven, which was part of the reason why I withdraw my girl from the school.

                  My two cents worth 🙂

Hi, i’m new here. my son is in ICR CCK branch. He is in K1 but was being classed to the ‘foundation’ class for ages 3.5-4.5 because the native male teacher says that there are sounds that he cannot pronounce properly which i feel is fine to start off from foundation. However, this is the 5th class and when i read books with him, he still cannot pronounce the sounds and blend into the words. Worst still, I asked the teacher how’s his progress and the teacher said to me that he cannot be ‘promoted’ to the class of his age becuz he cannot find another word as the same sounds as what she has asked. Eg. she said ‘rabbit’ and ask him to find the ‘r…’ which sounded like ‘ra’ sound to me. i cldn find the ‘r’ word too with the ‘ra’ sound, not to mention my son. she is supposed to teach my son, not asking my son to tell her when he dun even noe. his teacher is a s’porean which i tink looks quite young and is like freshly graduated from school with no proper experience. i’m quite disappointed with the way they teach and feel like withdrawing my son from the class.

Hmm… I guess different centers operate differently. I have a colleague whose gal is K1 this year. She enrolled her to ICR recently. She said her gal does not know any letter’s sound but is put into PRP class instead of TCR. My boy is also currently in ICR, K1 also. When I brought him to CCK branch for assessment 6 months ago, the teacher said he should go for the TCR class when he already knew all the letter’s sound. I felt that it was wasting of his time, so I requested another assessment in the same branch 1 month later. This time, the teacher said he can go for the PRP class!! Probably, my boy was nervous the 1st time. And we just had a PTM with the teacher last week after attending for about 2 months. She said my boy is doing very well, he knows all the letters’ sounds and blending as well. He could be promoted to the next stage in less than 6 months time.

                        Hi,

I am agreed with that. When my child first enrol in the course, he is also enrolled in the PRP although he knows all the blending and sound but still not proficient. IN less than 6 months, he is moving to next level ICR. So it depends on the kids when they take the assessment.
