I’ve had 3 dogs so far. All from puppyhood. All were fairly easy to toilet train.

When they are still less than 6mths old, not ideal to bring them outdoors so I will have pee/poop tray. 1st week, I usually fence them in to limit their access in the house and a pee tray will be placed in that area. 1st few times they may pee at any place they like, I’ll use a pee pad to soak up the urine and put that onto the tray and bring them to the tray to let them sniff. Each time I notice that they used the tray correctly, they get lots of praise and rubs. When they are 6mths old and done with their puppy jabs, I will start training them to do their businesses outdoors. With all 3, they naturally pee and poop at the grass patches. When I see that the pee tray is clean most of the time, I remove that completely.

I suddenly have this image of a small dog jumping onto a toilet bowl, misstepped and fall right in. 😂

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: it happened even for my big doggie 😆

Good morning ladies, some bad news. Seems like the GR Boy’s owner didn’t register after we keyed in the microchip ID into the pets register, thus, it couldn’t be found. No news from SPCA and AVA either.

Perhaps this piece of news caused me to have disturbed sleep last night as I am now facing the real issue whether to adopt the dog or rehome it.

I had a bad dream, I dreamt that the dog passed on when DH went to wake him up for its morning walk. Does this mean that I subconsciously don’t want the dog? Gosh...

To cut a long story short, our family loves GR Boy (except MIL who is currently staying w us) but DH and I are not ready to let him roam around the house so he is kept at the balcony. To me, that is already animal cruelty because Singapore weather is super hot.

I am thinking of giving it to the uncle auntie staying nearby as auntie said GR Boy could stay in her garden so we will still get to see him everyday. :gloomy:
But GR Boy now waves its tail whenever he sees us approaching him. Though he is lazy to move around, whenever we release the leash, he would quickly stand up to follow us, I think he is traumatized by being abandoned. We pity him. Now tell me, how not to get upset.

Well, I should stop posting such depressing news here. ME TIME thread should be a happy thread.

You should definitely do what's best for your family, but it sounds like he loves you already. It always amazes me how resilient animals are, and even after being abandoned by his previous family, he is still able to trust so quickly. With regards to the house, is it possible to partition off an area for him? For example, the laundry? When we got our puppies, we put a huge play pen in the middle of our lounge with toys and bedding and water etc and they stayed in there when we weren't home until we deemed them trustworthy enough to be let out to roam the house. But if that's not a viable option, then a small area inside where he is allowed might work, if you have one. If your balcony has shade, then it may be OK, just as long as he's not in direct hot sun for long periods and he has fresh water and a comfy place to rest.

That’s is alright lee yl. I think I will feel what you feeling now tio if I were in your shoes though I will doubt that will ever happen in the first place as I couldn’t bring myself near most of the animals…guess that is because we human and the dog have feelings…to take up an unexpected responsibility is not easy. I always imagine that taking care of a dog is more hard work than a child…just me la. How about putting down the worries of needing to care for GR boy till the end (I guess that the main worry)…you all enjoy each other company at the same time open up for adoption by other family that comes along the way…but till that day comes, the emotional attachment would be rather strong then…by then probably you can decide if you really want to keep GR boy…you will be more prepared. Meanwhile, GR boy is lucky to have a home. See if able to get some shade for him to rest under and away from the hot sun…need drink more water like human?

                      hi yl,

it looks like the dog has fallen in love with your family after saving him.
I understand why you are in a dilemma now. if you put him outside, it will be very hot but having him in the house will make the floor sticky. your MIL doesn’t stay with you all the time, so it’s really nothing to do with her…besides your hubby has fallen in love with the dog too. if you adopt the dog, he will solve the problem with his mum. maybe she will go to your place lesser.

Did you feel relieved or sad in your dream? Could be that you are afraid of losing him cos your logical self keeps saying rehome him but your emotional self is already vested.

To cut a long story short, our family loves GR Boy (except MIL who is currently staying w us) but DH and I are not ready to let him roam around the house so he is kept at the balcony. To me, that is already animal cruelty because Singapore weather is super hot. If you do decide to keep him, your MIL will definitely fall 'victim' to his charm. If your balcony is shaded, should be no issues. You balcony definitely beats him being out on the streets

I am thinking of giving it to the uncle auntie staying nearby as auntie said GR Boy could stay in her garden so we will still get to see him everyday. :gloomy: Seems to me your emo self is ahead in this tug of war. Else you would have jumped at this good opportunity to give him a good home.

Don't be sad. Be proud of yourself, your husband and you kids. Like I said. It takes a lot of courage and compassion to bring home a large stray. Honestly speaking even though I have a GR and love him to bits, I will hesitate to bring in a stray. Whatever your decision, you did something wonderful. If you decide to rehome him, you gave him the chance to find a loving home and for that family to experience the joy and love that he can give. If you decide to keep him, I am sure he will bring so much love and joy for your whole family.
