Don't worry about yr ds results.....and remember u r preggie now,
so do take it easy....
You are not alone coz my ds did badly for Maths too..... :roll:
I asked teacher & she said this round Maths was set more difficult
but as we have yet to see the paper, we are not too sure.
for me, i'll take things easy coz this is their 1st major exam & most
pri schools do not hv P1 & 2 exams. But of coz, this is not an excuse
for the kids to do badly juz becoz the paper was difficult but more of
the child's character & learning attitude; so.... give ourselves more time.
If I were to tell u my ds's Maths results, u would not feel so bad....

Understand your feeling as my dd didn't do well in MT and Shocked me as well. But nvm it is only thru the exams I got to understand her level & weakness. I will put in more efforts in building up her basic foundation for MT. Actually maths can practise, MT dun know how to practise leh?? No choice, just have to do it !!!!

Just to share, when my dd works on her maths worksheets or h/w. i normally leave it to her 100%. When she hits problem, she will approachs me then we will work together to make her understand the concepts. After she has understand the concept of that problem, I will create another 3-5 questions with the similiar concept to confirm her undestanding. I feel that they may not be able to think properly if we are there to distract them and you can't really gauge whether they truely understand the concepts if you are helping them. So far, it works quite well for me. :!: :!:

becoz i really cld not believe it when my ds told me his maths marks.

In fact, I appreciated the SA1. At least now I know my son weakness and can start to do the pro-active correction. After this “shocked” incident, I also received lots of advices and learn lots of teaching skills from Buds, mavlle, anniekiasung etc. I believe that things will get better.

Hols time can zoom in the areas more intensely.
I also share your style of doing the papers esp
when the girls in P1. They need us parents to
first show them how the papers are to be
carried out effectively. After a few tries, they
will attempt the paper on their own without
much emphasis on time frame.. and finally when
they could manage effeciently without much help
i let them do the papers but with me around or
next to them, mebbe reading papers/mags.. and
the likes.. and will keep reminding them how much
time they have left. The final work is to ask them
to check their work. Checking work is really like
doing the papers all over again but only in your
mind.. must do one by one and make sure it sounds
right (for English), and (for Maths)... check again if
that is what the questions asked for.. plus check all
workings individually.. i mean u noe oredi lar, my gals
can write upside down working wan.. 3 + 5 can be
8 + 5.. :roll:.. aniwaes, all that guide is supposed to
help them slowly manage school exams efficiently &
independently, hence early preparations are very
important.. so can go gradual instead of pump in
all one shot..

hehhee.....i was not busy today but was extremely busy in the morning.
anyway, happy to see u cracking jokes again.
i know all parents want their kids to do well, but every child is different.
pushing them a little is good; but if too much, it will become negative.
together we learn with our kids.....and shld u feel terrible again, remember we are here for u.

i was also pissed when my ds told me his maths results; but then as we hv yet to see the paper; we cannot assess their weakness. Since both our DS did not do well in their Maths, we can help each other like last year this time when we were busy trying to analyse the balloting statistics.
Both of us are A/ctants; how can our kids Maths be so lousy?? No no,
we must work harder!! hahhahha.....

This was how i taught my girl too.
But she still got the question on the tens and ones wrong. I went thru this with her many times because I anticipated that this question will come out and during my revision with her she can tell me 1 tens 11ones equal 21 or 1 tens 20 ones equal 3 tens and many more with correct answers. But when I ask her 1 more than 19 equal how many tens. she told me she wrote the answer as 10 tens. I just burst into laughter and told she was so easily being tricked by the question.She laughed,felt a little bit shy and quickly told me the correct answer is 2 tens. And she also quickly told me that at least she did not her waste time doing colouring during her maths paper.I did not want to pressure her any more and told her that she had done well.

I guess there could be various reasons why she could not get this question right.
1) she might be feeling tired (she complained to her piano teacher she could'nt sleep well because of her younger brother keep disturbing her at night).

2) She might not be feeling well during her papers.

3) The duration of the papers might be too taxing for her.

4) Upset with her daddy for bringing her younger brother to watch Iron Man 2 without her because she had to study for her exams at home.

5) She might be feeling a bit nervous since this was her first exams

6) Or, she could have been bullied by her brother just before her exams.

well, well.....the paper is over & the best we can do is encourage the child to do better the next time.

anniekaisung, thanks for yr detailed analysis on why a child cld not do well for his/her paper....i think the kids will get the paper back today according to my sms with 1E's form teacher....we can then slowly sit down with our ds/dd to check on the qns/ans..... sigh.... :?:
