Comparing English Enrichment Programmes

hi annalee,
Can share a little more on what you know about TWC?
Any idea about the teachers and do you think the English tuition class is sufficient to cover compo writing?
I am sourcing for English classes as the current one is far and I am unable to send/fetch my boy w/o my hubby and he is going to change work schedule soon…
I am considering TWC but yet to visit the centre as I prefer their time slots to TAS. -

I am not that sure, just glanced at their materials. Sorry cannot help that much here. Their method of writing it seems is to get the students to rewrite their composition in multiple drafts if I am not wrong. For their English class, I think it depends on what your child needs, if your child is strong in his basics, then I think he or she could catch quite fast and maybe should go for the class that focuses more on writing instead? If not then choose the English tuition class. I chose TAS because to me structure is rather important, and I like their methodology of teaching. Good to go for a trial for TWC and see how your child takes to it.hi annalee,

Thanks annelee! I will go check it out.
My boy’s sch also practices writing drafts… I visited a tuition centre recently, its creative writing class also do drafts so it may take two lessons to finish the compo. I am unsure if it is a norm, his currently tuition centre didn’t do that though… -

I think writing drafts is quite a common practice but whether it is effective depends on the teacher and the child. If the child can learn from reading the teacher's comments and re-writing his work, and if the teacher can guide the child effectively through this method then writing drafts is good. My sister's kids used to go to a tuition centre (small centre that is not one of the more well-known English ones) where they did drafts and she found that while they understood what was wrong with their composition, they did not know how to make it better, like which phrases to put in or how to build up the story more. But when one of her kid had a school teacher in P5 who also made them do drafts but gave very clear examples to guide him, he began to improve. So while one teacher (from the tuition centre) made them do drafts, they did not improve but when another (from the school) made one of her kids do it, he improved. So I think it all depends on the teacher and also how well the child takes to it.Thanks annelee! I will go check it out.

I registered TAS for my boy next year P1. Not sure if it's good. Will feedback..

If you have any to share with me, let me know coz I am still uncertain if I register the correct centre. Was deciding this and LCentral or British Council or TWC.
