Handphone for elderly
-
Actually IPhone is very user-friendly for elderly. My mom and uncle who do not how to read Chinese / English character are able to use the iPhone very comfortably. They even learn to play games / watch video from iPhone.

My dad is antsy about having a smart phone (he doesn’t want to learn to swipe, input passwords and he doesn’t want to surf), and he wants a clamshell type so he doesn’t accidentally call someone. I bought a Singapore brand phone that has huge keys, no data required and supports 3G. Saw something similar at NTUC Xtra AMK. it retails about $98. Definitely one that’s suitable for the elderly.

We gave iPhone to my parents-in-law but they are not able to use it. Meanwhile my mom is able to use it. I guess they are different in preference, and other things. I noticed my father-in-law's hands are shaky so maybe he has no confidence in touching a touch screen phone. He is used to pressing buttons. He is 86 years old so I am not going to force him to use and learn touch screen. The handphone should help him and not stress him. -

Thank you Lego. FIL's previous phone was a flip phone. We'll ask him whether he wants a flip phone (he is already used to it) or not. Maybe we should also ask him how often he drops the phone. I guess a flip phone is more durable if dropped often.sgino cp88 (3g) for eldery

My grandparents can only use dumb phones. Those old nokia models are the best for them.

There are new Nokias that mimic the old models - with buttons. Maybe have a look at those?

If the phones are 3G models (like the Nokia 3310 - 3G) , then they can still be used in Singapore.

Just note that the number keys may be quite tiny for some models.
If u plan to give such phones to the elderly, perhaps can consider to help them assign speed dial settings for their children/close friends or other commonly dialed numbers.
Btw, there are other 3G models with more visible/ bigger number keys (and loud ringtones too according to one buyer) that u can find from 2nd handphone shops/qoo10 etc. (Eg . https://www.qoo10.sg/item/Y2K-3G-FLIP-2-SENIOR-PHONE-BRAND-NEW-LOCAL-SET-1-YEAR-LOCAL-MANUFACTUR/507696157?banner_no=1305330
Nonetheless, you can still assign speed dial setting if the phone allows.
During emergency, sometimes they may get a bit lost and have problems recalling phone numbers.
