Hi Jennifer,Jennifer:
LC,
any good news from NJC?
LC DC1 has done very well. He got 3 balls landed into his court, up to him to choose which ball he desire :
RI (CO), NJC (Waitlist), another IB (CO)
the chance of NJC (Waitlist), converted into a CO, is very high too

I am not sure whether 勉强 promo to next level is the right option.Jennifer:
I am bracing myself for the possibility that ah boy might not be promoted to JC2.
Talk to Mr Sham, he won't be so cruel. There was a JH2 who didn't make it too, eventually Mr Sham still promoted the child to JH3, just that the child has to do fewer subjects. Even though Njc is our (family member's) alma mater, things are very different now. Imagine writing graded 3-page reflections for most of the assignments... -
tmr is the 15th day of the 7th month.
do stay indoors with air purifiers on if your neighbourhood has the burning of prayers, or to wear a face mask when go outdoors. -

To be retained is devastating, especially for boys' self-esteem. In order to avoid consolidation, mine studied till 5am (boarding) & was very proud for aceing MA (least favourite subject) eventually, losing out only to the China scholars (who scored full marks, as usual). I find Njc teachers (mostly) very supportive of the academic, behavioural & emotional well-being of the kids, plus the kids revere them... Talk to them. -
During my JC days, I have seen a few seniors, boys n girls, kena retained. Well, I think I can accept the idea. Definitely wont go into depression if that happens. Like I always believe: things happen for a reason.

Not everybody is the same. Seek Ah Boy’s view if it really happens.
Elder Boy may be able to give him tips on how to do well in exams. I noticed those shooting boys are usually do well in study. I guess they can focus their attention very well in study and exams. -

LC.
Ask your boy don’t get too upset. Last year I knew a handful of girls who applied to SCGS/MGS/Cedar, ALL received rejection letter. Thus, we did not apply to these (non SBGE) schools. Friend told me that few (gepper) girls in her centre went ahead to go Cedar using tscore subsequently. -

Being retained can be a good thing, as long as the student doesn't let it damage his self-esteem too much. It can be a good wake-up call. I've heard of students who either repeated JC1, and a couple who repeated JC2 (ie. took A levels again). It's worth it if it means getting better A level grades, because it determines whether the student can get into his university course of choice. If he isn't ready for JC2 yet, and doesn't manage to catch up during the Nov/Dec holidays, then he will start JC2 already behind and may struggle even more as the year progresses.
