All About Full-Time Maids

So far my encounter with Myanmar maids were like these.... sighI have had 2 Mymmar maids last year. The 1st only last for about 3 weeks. Couldn't really communicate with her as she could hardly speak English. So couldn't bear the communication bit and had to return her to the agent. The 2nd Mymmar maid was a transfer maid. Her English ok, can understand. But the problem is she is too stubborn. After about 4 months, we couldn't tahan that she refuse to change the wrong way of doing things despite us telling her again and again. When I complained to the agent, the agent said \"Mymmar maids are like that. They are stubborn.\"
I am really not sure if that is really the case. I have seen forum discussions about good Mymmar maid and an ex-staff's brother also has a good Mymmar maid.
I just it is really all about luck when it comes to getting a good maid. Keeping my fingers crossed that my new maid who is coming next week will not disappoint me. -

Hi KopiYing, I guessed all maids are like that...My Filipino maid has been working with us for more than a year and she is also just like that...Always like to tell us that her frens, relatives working in Singapore are applying to work overseas etc etc cos of the higher salary...My maid is paid $380 with one off-day every month....We are a small family (ONLY 3 members plus one toy poodle)....so to say she should be coping well...However, she still needs to be reminded and just yesterday I asked her why she can remember her things and dun need to be reminded?? She is also a super fast worker...everything also do very fast so that she could rest early...We are all early birds...we get into our bedroom by 9pm or latest by 9.30 pm...The moment we are in the room, she will disappear into her room within 5 minutes...I feel that Filipino maid has alot of request and they dare to ask for it...My previous Indon maid was not so good in domestic work but she behaves well...too bad, her spoken english was no good and so we got a filipino one after her contracts ended...After having a few maids for 3 years (some were sent back to agent due to incompetency), you just feel like going without maid...BUT is worried whether can cope or not.....especially the housework.... :oops:My fili maid is leaving in a fortnight's time.
Before her contract ends she actually went to agency at orchard area, paid $25 so that she can find potential employers (according to her, she meant employers from US / rich pple!). moreover she can get as much as $400 salary! Well that's her wish. But we suspect she din have any luck coz she told us she wanna continue to work for us. Ah well. But we told her we cant wait for her for a mth coz her passport is due in a few mths' time & she gotta go back & do the renewal.
After working for almost 2 years, her performance is so so only and gotta be reminded at times. Yet she want at least $400 pay...... Things that she doesnt need to be reminded, that's when she has off day. Do things super fast.
Today is her last time taking off, she actually asked whether can come back an hour later than the usual duration. We let her. -
Maids now are ‘more’ educated in the sense that they are taught to choose employers. More people in the household to serve, nationality of employer and whether there are kids/aged in the house…maids will pick and choose. Filipino maids tend to be more daring, they will ask questions which Indonesians won’t dare to.
A friend of mine recommended me to try a Myanmar maid…we went to interview her. She happens to be the sister-in-law of friend’s maid. This maid we interviewed worked for a family of 8 people and decided to call it quits after 2 months bcos there were too many people in the household. She even asked how many people there are in MY family. Based on this, we could tell she is choosing employer and a calculative person. -

Hello Si Si,
So why you still choose Myanmar maids? Why not try Indon?

All maids are the same…Myanmar maids supposed to be slower and so more obedient than Indonesian. Filipino maids are the worst lot - off day, handphone to yak and yak and their preference for angmoh employer.
Indonesians, you have to be careful not to offend them or else they put urine in food, or else worse case, MURDER the employer.
Sorry to be such a wet blanket but I’m just so scared of maids. -

Hi Janet!
My maid was also quite \"choosy\". She told me when she was in Taiwan, she just lasted one year because she was working in a 3-storey house with so many people and the weather was so cold she could not tahan so she quited.
She had experience back in Indonesia working for an expatriate ang mo for short-while only. This time she just needed to take care of one person and an apartment. Unfortunately this place was apparently haunted :!: . She said the TV will switch on on its own, doors will go bang etc.. yeeeeks!!!! Her ang mo boss apparently partied a lot and went back quite late each night so drunk he did not notice anything. She could not tahan so quit! :?:
Just before she came to work for me, she told me her Indon. agent gave her 3 choices: first choice look after an elderly, second choice work for family with kids, third choice work for couple about to give birth to one kid (me!). She chose the 3rd choice because she said look after a child is more fun compared to looking after elderly.
Wah lau!!! And to think I chose her at the maid agency but she actually chose us too!!
But my maid so far is a fabulous maid. Her pay, she is already talking in the region of SGD500-550 !!!! I am not paying her such amounts yet but to keep her I eventually will have to. This is the result of her going out and talking to those very experienced maid of 7 to 10 years and apparently earn that type of pay! :x

DesertWind,
When I chose my Indon maid, she did a wonderful job looking after my newborn and also cooked fabulous meals. We were all spoilt. She used to work in a factory, never as a maid.
The good thing about her is she wasn’t easily brainwashed by other maids…but she was desperate to get married bcos she was considered old then (28).
When I choose maids, I don’t take ex-Sin, ex-Hongkong, ex-Taiwan (meaning they have ever worked these countries b4). These will ask for rocket high pay thinking they have experience. -

:celebrate:[/quote]I had 2 indo maids before I tried Myanmar maids. 1st Myan 'smuggled in' altogether 4 hps during her off days in her 23 mths with me even if it is agreed no hps for the beginning. 2nd Myan is a transfer maid from a friend after her mum passed away n she doesnt need the maid. Was with me for 23 mths also. Has been without maids for 5 weeks already
. First time in 8 years. Felt liberated even though have to handle housework n cooking. Physically may have more work but emotionally n mentally am VERY HAPPY!!! :rahrah:

Same here  , I have been maidless since 21st last month, longest period ever without a maid, lots of privacy, can talk freely without having some stranger eaves dropping, thnk God they invented the washing machine! I do the housewk at my own time.. I cant cook n I dnt eat maids cooking. Considering calling tenkak svsw for a month. Though Im a sahm Im out everyday so I eat out.. Went to bkt timah agent to look for burmese, hve not confirm any yet. Nothing much to choose, theres one thats out for transfer n can speak english cos shes been 8 mths here. I realise if Im gonna take one that speak english fairly well then I might as well revert back to Indon/filip.... I decided to try one that is provincial and speak little english. Just hope that she will turn out to be obedient etc..and c whether i can groom her. -
Hi moonee,
Hope your search for maid is successful. If you’re going for Indonesian maid, try not to get those from Lumpong…those from Java are better. My prev maid told me Lumpong maids are rude and unrefined. I had one from Lumpong bcos there were no maids from Java…boy ! was my earlier maid so right !!!
