I looked through the results for smops 2008 and noticed that lim jeck was 3rd in Smops but did not win anything for apmops. Anyone know if he did not take the test?

should be in order of merit, i guess. otherwise, letter of J Or L could not rank 3rd by alphabetic order. :?

according to his blog, in 2010, he clinched a bronze of Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad (APMO)
though bronze, but he is Sec 1 only. (APMO is for all Sec students, right? :? )

the namelist is the ranking of individual winners for smops so is by merit.

He is Year 3 (Sec 3) this year. APMO (Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad) is for high school students (up to JC2 level). Typically, only trainees in the senior and national teams are recommended to take part. Each year, at most 1 Gold medal and at most 7 medals (Gold+Silver+Bronze) are awarded for each participating country.

You mean no PRC in the Singapore Team? Only locals are trained at NUS (in the Junior, Senior & National Teams) and allowed to represent Singapore for such big scale maths olympiads. Otherwise you might be saying how come no singaporean prize winner instead :P.

Anyway what i heard is the places for apmo are usually given to pre j2 students to prepare them for their imo.

First part is true, only Singapore citizens and PRs are allowed to be trained at NUS. 2nd part - Singaporeans generally fare better than the PRCs and other foreigners in the local maths olympiad (e.g. SMO), they take up majority (>70%) of the top 10 positions. Refer to 2009 SMO results http://sms.math.nus.edu.sg/Competitions/SMO2009.aspx

APMO is held in Mar. JC2 students can take part, anyway they still have the last chance to be selected for IMO, with the selection tests being held in Apr and May. For this year's Singapore IMO team, 3 are in JC2, 1 in JC1, 1 in Sec 4 and 1 in Sec 3.
