      Hi All,

May i ask, what do you think are the chances of someone withdrawing from a school before their kids start P1 and hoping the school will give the seat to us? I am thinking about us parents who placed our child on the school waiting list and it seems like an uncertain situation, not sure how to feel about this.

I am really desperately hoping for my son to get into the school that we’ve being balloted out from. haiz.

My guess only. I think usually it’s a case of the parents who are alumni of some popular school, suddenly one day they realize how far away the school actually is, in practical terms (what ridiculous time the kid needs to wake up, or cannot find school bus arrangements). Then they will withdraw from that far away alumni school and enrol to a school nearer to their house with plenty of vacancies left.

That may free up a seat for the next person on the waitlist. Then that person will withdraw from the existing school, freeing up the seat for the next person on the waitlist…and so on…

thanks zac’s mum. my first choice is just a normal neighbourhood school…maybe chances would be ultra slim to have someone to give up a seat then. so sad.

There are some people who may have chosen the 'normal neighbourhood school' because it is < 1km in Phase 2C. However, their actual desired school are other schools which they may not have qualified (exceed the distance for balloting) or schools that they were balloted out from (in Phase 2A or Phase 2B). If their waitlist for those schools are confirmed, they will withdraw from the neighbourhood school resulting in an available space.

There are cases where kids are still overseas due to their parents posting. However they need to secure a seat when come P1 registration. They may only be back a few years later so those seats are also available

In those cases, the parents need to apply officially for Leave of Absence and pay a nominal school fee in order for the school to “keep” the place for the child.

So is the school permitted to give the place away to another child? 🤷

May I ask is it common to follow up calls to school after submitting waiting list and after phase 2C?

                        Hi sillygal_1608,

i guess there's no hard and fast rule and its up to the individual on whether you wish to call the school periodically to check. for me, l I tried calling up before i apply for 2CS (with a glimmer of hope) and got disappointed.

I will try calling again perhaps in NOV with another glimmer of hope.
