lego, maybe you can post that question in the RI/RGS thread? I am actually not very sure about this, paiseh , I only know that most girls get the combi of their choice (and triple science is quite popular, so this is usually not a concern). I know more about the requirements of NYGH than RGS 😂

Understand that your child is in RGS.
May I ask - are the girls required to take biology in upper sec before they are allowed to take it in RI or is it optional?
iirc, you would have needed to take Bio in upper sec before being allowed to take it in RI. Same for Chem and Physics.

I think another factor u might want to look into when choosing the subject combination is if there is any pre-requisite for the courses that yr child might be interested in for Uni.

Eg. Some courses may require the student to have taken H2 physics.
If yr child did not take physics in upper Sec, she would not be allowed to take physics in JC.

Biology, History and Geography - there is no such requirement to have taken the same subject in upper Sec before they are allowed to take it in HCI (JC) as far as i know.
that is very kind of Hwa Chong JC, to allow students in Upper Sec (Y3 / Y4) who didn't do Bio before, to take it up in Y5.

But, is it only allowed for A-level H1 Bio, or for H2 Bio, as well ?

            H2 bio is ok.

                Hi

Can I find out from any parents here....

For special programmes such as AEP, HMP, SMTP, HP or BSP, is every girl only allowed to choose one or can choose more than one? For example, do HMP and HP.

                Thank you for sharing 🙂

Each student can only be in either SMTP or HP, and not in both. However, I understand SMTP or HP students can still offer BSP, but not as a SAP scholar. For existing HMP/AEP students, I believe it will be considered as an additional subject if they are in the HP program.

                Thank u 🙂

Both Imp75 and lego have their own valid points.

Physics/Chem seems to be a better combi than bio/chem in the sense that you can take bio as H2 in HCI (provided you meet some min msg anyway) even if you hadn’t taken bio in sec 3/4, but you can’t take physics as H2 if you hadn’t taken it in sec3/4.

I also know of girls who took bio/chem in sec 3, then by end of sec 3 couldn’t meet the min B4, and were asked to drop bio, so left with only one science (chem) in sec 4.

Bio also wasn’t the most easy to score science subject in upper level either (sometimes the mean score of a bio test can be 40/100!). So passion would be helpful in such circumstances to pull through difficult times?
                    hi mommyNg,

at end of Sec 3 in NYGH, if a student fail to attain minimum B4 for pure Physics, school will ask student to drop Physics, too ?

I assume so? Need to clarify that not just minimum B4 for that particular subject, but overall must also not more than msg 4 (= B4). The girls I know, 2 were asked to drop bio, 1 was asked to drop one science (but I can’t remember whether it was bio or physics) by end sec 3, 1 did the re-paper (alternative assessment) after failed to attain B4 earlier and luckily scored better than B4 in the re-paper so got to keep her 2 sciences (Physics/Chem) in sec 4, and 1 got moved over to repeat sec 3 in O level class.

But don’t need to be too worried, I think most girls would do fine enough to move on to HCI.

Come to think about it, I recall that my dd’s classmate didn’t like Bio and decided not to sit for the exam so in the end she dropped Bio in Sec 4. I was surprised. So sometimes, it the students themselves want to drop the subjects through this way.
