Parents' role is not just helping kids to get good grades, we've to watch their wholesome devpt to incl mental & emotional health besides physical needs for rest & recreation.

Help the manage stress & most of all gives lots of love & encouragements. Towards PSLE, when school was stepping-down CCA, my son wants to continue staying in school for soccer with the P5 boys. I ensure he gets early rests & stop studying after dinner to R&R with family. Back in my mind, I don't want my child to get the sense of anxieties. Hope when he has to be out there on his own, he'll manage well & not be overwhelmed as a young teen/adult.

        Fern12:
        Hi parents

I am a first time PSLE mummy and am not sure if I am doing enough or too much with my son for his preparation. With slightly more than a week to the PSLE exams, what should we be getting the kids be doing at home for their studies? Please advise. Thanks!
        Hi Fern12,
        For CL:
        Paper 1 Compo
        - Prioritize on recap of the adjectives and descriptive phrases (minimal 1 for each type) that can be used for feelings (happy, angry, panic/scared, embarrassed, tired, scared) and common actions (walking happily, walking hastily, running, scolding, apologizing). If time permits, then weather and appearance too.
        - If the child has memorized any opening and/or closing paragraphs, get them to practice writing them out without any 错别字 (very wasteful to have marks deducted for these kind of 'fixed' content which they should have been very used to and familiar with)

        Paper 2 Written Paper
        - Make use of the bilingual list at the back of P6 and P5 textbooks for revision. Child can do self directed learning by covering the column with English translation/meaning. Circle or ticked out those that he/she didn't know the meaning of. That will help sieve out the ones which require more attention. Prior to the paper on Mon (i.e. over the weekend, focus on those 'sieved out' words/phrases.
        - Practice on 短文填空,阅读理解(一),完成对话 and 阅读理解(二)A组. These sections are all MCQ (+1 note writing question) thus do not take up that much time. They are also very much 'score-able' and there's every possibility that a child can score close to full marks out of the 38 available (10+8+10+10). If the P6 past yr school exam papers have already been completed, turn to the P5 papers instead. Certain words/phrases are commonly repeated in the 阅读理解(二)A组 section - e.g. 截止日期、详情、首50名、获得礼包etc. so the child will get familiarized and know where to check for information. Meanwhile, reading and understanding the passages in 短文填空,阅读理解(一)can indirectly prepare them for 阅读理解(二)B组.

Thanks for the tips, chenlaoshi. I think your suggested strategies would really help with the last minute revision for CL.

this is the grey area many parents are worried...have I done enough or is there anymore which can be done?
go through the mistakes made...go easy on the child and yourselves. the schools have been pumping the kids with paper after paper. most of the questions would be repeated. take care of yourself and also the child's mental health.

Thanks, janet88. I guess we just have to trust that we have done what we can the last few months.

I found this blog which I found quite useful in understanding what is required for the continuous writing component:

I saw that there is an online class. Did you sign up for the class? Any review to share?
