All About Full-Time Maids

If the eyer is reported, depends on testimony of maid. If she can provide very detailed information, providing evidence such as knowledge of regular customer, but still very weak case to being a devious eyer down.
I know of a famous bakery that started her bz fr marionette home with maid's help & maid was such good baker, eyer's bz grew into big bz employing staff for events. Husband quit mktg job to help. But not in unhygienic condition as you've witnessed. Yikes!!! :yikes:
Anybody cooking, baking or handling food for others to consume MUST hv 厨德 and human conscience. Earn money must retain conscience. If cannot, then better find sth can answer to conscience to do. Some blinded by profit & cut corners w/o conscience. Stain their hands & heart with other ppl's 'blood'. Sigh! -
I am utterly disappointed by the staff at the Labour Express Hougang Green Branch. She goes by the name Elli.
Firstly, we texted her regarding looking at a maid for my elderly grandmother, who is an 80-year-old woman. We texted her last night, 19 Sept, to confirm, regarding looking at a maid, whom we are told from our previous appointment, that would be at the agency today, 20 Sept, at 12 noon. For starters, she ignored our text messages and calls. Which is very irresponsible and unprofessional.
Subsequently, she replied today, 20 Sept, at roughly 11.30 am in the morning to confirm that we will be going down to see the maid. To add in, at this point, she also confirmed that the maid will be in at 12 noon. Upon receiving this message, we proceeded to confirm and made our way down to the branch.
At 12.15 pm, she called and ask if we are coming down and we said that we are nearby and reaching. The phone call was short and ended at that. However, less than 5 minutes after our phone call, she told us the maid that SHE (ELLI) recommended to us, was taken even though she literally just hung up with us less than 5 minutes ago.
This is very unprofessional and irresponsible because we are talking about making an 80-year-old woman travel down to look at potential maids only for their staff to tell us that the maid is taken, less than 5 minutes after a phone call with us. -
Just to share for those of u who allow helpers to use wifi
You can use parent control function to block access eg between midnight to 5am -
So, how does it help manage maid?
Midnite till 5am access means maid don’t need to sleep if hv free wifi to keep using happily? Then daytime no energy or concentration to do their work properly?
Block wifi access daytime so they can concentrate in their work? They can still use their own in the day & ride on yr wifi in the nite.
Daytime your kids may need wifi to do their hmwk.
Best don’t even allow access as that’ll increase their expectations. Use their own & they learn to manage themselves if they realize wasting hard earned money of their own. Owise, when u’re at work, they spend whole day texting or chatting, googling rush thro your housework slipshod then that’s not want to want right! -
Oh, I do allow my helper to text during the day & she watches programs on phone at night using my wifi.
But I block wifi so she can’t text through the night. Parent Control is a very useful tool. You can block every single device for different timing
helpers who are texting all the time will do it even if u don’t provide wifi. It’s best to replace them if they can’t control phone addiction. -
I’ll manage maids like most do, without obligation to provide wifi, so as not to 弄坏行情. Not every eyer can provide this as it’s not a need but more of a want item.
If I spoil the helpers, I’ll hv to be prepared to hv them climb over my head. Anyway, they’re paid to work at my household, not to surf internet. Focus gets wrong & muddled.
When I interview maids, I never choose those emboldened by expat eyers to ask me to provide wifi. I’ll provide 3 solid meals, toiletries, a decent place to sleep with linen & blankets as I consider these as necessities. When my kids were very young, we provide them with MRT cards & regular top ups. I think I’ve given decent enuf to meet their needs whilst they earn money to send home. -

Hi,
Has anyone encountered cases of employers helping FDWs to bring their child to Singapore to stay with them under exceptional circumstances? My helper who is like a family to us, faced with a tragic incident - her younger son passed away suddenly last Thursday due to dengue after just a day in hospital. We have allowed her to go back for his funeral as well as settle family matters. She is keen to bring her elder son (9 year old) to stay with her (and with us) in singapore which i am very supportive of. I know one way is to apply for student pass. However for foreign students admission, the centralised admission test only happens next year February. Does anyone know in the meantime what she can do? Can she bring her son to stay with us for 30 days and we apply for long term visit pass when he is here?
Thank you all in advance! I know this is an extraordinary situation and thus am asking for any information that fellow parents may have/know of or any agents who can do this. Any info will be helpful. Merci. -
