We balloted for SNGS & didn't get a place. My girl is academically advanced. She finds Marymount slow. It's harder on her now that every class is mixed ability. This is MOE's current model for most pri sch. It is tough for some teachers who can't adjust. This model caters to children in the middle 80% of Bell curve.
Marymount is very pleasant. Current P was VP of SNGS (sec) & the valedictorian in principal academy. She took over in 2017/2018. There will be gradual balanced changes to MCS. This is the P 😁

It's about finding a suitable school that matches your parenting values & aspirations for your child.

RE: Marymount Convent
There’s not much homework from p1-p3. One might get some homework from math or Chinese teacher, esp from P3 onwards
Generally school life is pleasant and new P has expanded on non-academic curriculum.
You can check Facebook account of MCS PSG
MCS is great for girls who have typical girl interests like dance, gym & choir
It is also great for slow learners or mild special needs as the academic curriculum is not as tough as other primary schools.
For the same reason, it is not recommended if child is very fast learner or gifted. It does not have CCA like chess, debate, robotics, track n field, basketball etc
The new P subscribes to & practices current MOE education model
- less testing (hopefully less competitiveness & stress)
- mixed ability classes from P3 onwards (there’s top half & bottom half)
- Chinese & math banding fr P3 onwards (students r streamed in these 2 subjects; there r top and bottom classes for targeted teaching)
P5 onwards
- girls have to stay back twice per week to finish curriculum for PSLE (many pri sch practice this in different forms)
- higher mother tongue is offered
- there is significant homework -
RE: All About Full-Time Maids
I’m not sure how that is being enforced. My fren’s helper went for home leave & she didn’t buy the $6k insurance. She assumed it was cos the pay was high enough.
The agency said it wasn’t necessary when I said I didn’t want to buy it. My Indo helper went to Batam on her off day. Came back without problems. Her pay isn’t high as she gets all Sundays and public holidays off. -

RE: All About Full-Time Maids
Oh, I do allow my helper to text during the day & she watches programs on phone at night using my wifi.
But I block wifi so she can’t text through the night. Parent Control is a very useful tool. You can block every single device for different timing
helpers who are texting all the time will do it even if u don’t provide wifi. It’s best to replace them if they can’t control phone addiction. -
RE: All About Full-Time Maids
Just to share for those of u who allow helpers to use wifi
You can use parent control function to block access eg between midnight to 5am -
RE: All About Full-Time Maids
Pls file the police report & refer to MOM if the agency tries to hold you to the contract. After threatening to file police report for both agency & FDW, the agency refunded admin fees & insurance in full. I also made them pay for her air ticket
The I/O only agreed to help me claim back admin fees. So I filed a complaint abt this I/O.
the agency informed my elderly helper that I found out abt them forging bio-data. The helper then took a loan from a "licensed moneylender" before she was repatriated. Thk God, I found out when I packed her luggage. I sent the loanshark to collect his debt at agency. I informed MOM too but no response. I saw that the referral person was another FDW whom I had interviewed at the same agency. -
RE: All About Full-Time Maids
You will need screenshots & evidence of her soliciting sexual services for payment.
U can make a police report.
https://www.police.gov.sg/e-services/report/police-report
Please indicate in your police report that you are making this report as a record against the worker and for the Ministry of Manpower to take actions on her. The police report will help to substantiate your feedback given on this worker when our Ministry informs any prospective employers of her record.
It is an offence to solicit sex in Spore
It is against MOM FDW work permit regulations to work part-time. For this reason, she is in breach of agency contract & doesn't have the right to be transferred as she has broke a law in Spore. Just show them the police report.
Depending on contract terms, the agency or u have to repatriate her. If the agency insists on transferring her, let them do so.
email the police report to MOM & report both agency & maid.
In theory, MOM is supposed to take action against the agency. It depends on the officer. The I/O that I spoke to can't remember details, so I started copying our emails to main email for employment agency, [email protected] ) -
RE: All About CCTV/spy camera for monitoring maids
Does anyone know how to set "power loss" alert? I don’t need motion alert.
I’m using edimax & Foscam webcam & realised the last 2 helpers switched off my webcams.
One happily slept on my bedroom while we were on holiday. Only found out when I got home cos there were nail polish stains on the floor.
The other one was searching my room. may have lost some cny money.
