SAP pri kids in the East whose grades didn't make it to IP after PSLE may be keen for DHSJC after doing well in O Levels in SAP sec schools like CCHS or AHS. Some top students from CCHS may opt for DHS as it is only a stone's throw from CCHS.

DHS(JC)'s COP should be rather high.

It's a welcomed news for people living in the west too. There's a sandwich group of west-enders who may not qualify for NUSH, HCJC and NJC but are too qualified for PJC. Now, besides ACJC, they have RVJC as another option.

What do u all think ? Will there be a \"fight\" for good, strong JAE candidates, between Victoria JC and Dunman JC ?

Those students who are more \"ang mo pai\" : not keen in rich Chinese oriented Traditional environment, or perhaps lured by some special, interesting, enticing Drama (Acting) enrichment programme available at Victoria JC, but not found at Dunman : will target VJC. They won't choose Dunman.

What attraction, do Temasek JC & Meridian JC, offer ?

80 is a very small number as compared to other JC’s O level intake and I dont think its going to drastically change the dynamics of both schools.(May be there will be a gradual increase in coming years) If a student want to do A level and experience JC life, then I think a real JC (ie VJC) will be a preferred choice. You cant really compared a high school with about 400 student per cohort with a JC of 800-1000 students…the dynamics is totally different…but of course some will like a small close knit environment.

Moreover as we know such school may have brought down some JC curriculum to its IP secondary students to prepare them way ahead of A level. Hence, Adaptation and agility are important to join at JC level.

I think the school has make some conscious efforts to ensure that the JAE students don't feel left out:
1. Though the Y5 (IP) students will still report to school in Jan, they will not go through any lesson relating to JC curriculum until Feb when the JAE students join them, so the JAE students will not be under any disadvantages.
2. The Y5 (IP) students will continue to wear their Y4 uniform (ie with the metal buttons) until the JAE students join them since the JAE students will be reporting in their secondary uniform and everyone will change to their Senior High uniform and get their school batch together.
3. The school will make provision for non-Chinese students to appreciate the DHS culture and heritage like the school song and motto through translation.

2019 new changes

Dunman High & River Valley High finally at last start taking in O-level students, for their A-level in Year (5 and 6).


From today onwards (going forward) -

a)

lets call this school, \"Dunman Junior College\" , no longer just merely being a High school.


b)

no more so called miserable \"on-demand\" one, single O-level class, comprising a very small pool of candidates.
But, going forward, will open several full-fledged O-level classes.

Is it official that Dunman High School will be renamed as Dunman Junior College?

If it’s not, it will be good to continue retaining the name “Dunman High School” for discussions until it’s officially announced.

Hi, thks for the info. Yes it’s a great news for the students as they hv 2 more choices and benefit those who stay nearer to these 2 schools.

After O-level exam results are out next year 2019, whose expected date of O-level results release announcement is around (14 January 2019), thereabout :

JAE (Joint Admission Exercise) O-level applicants from various Secondary schools all over Singapore, who are interested in studying GCE A-level at Dunman Junior College, can apply.

As long as their L1R5 O-level results are able to meet the Admission Cut-off point (2019), for both Arts & Science stream JC1 (Junior College Year 1), they can enter. Next year (2019) market forces of demand & supply (# of vacancies or Total number of classes, allocated for JAE applicants), will determine the Admission Cut off point for Science / Arts stream, at Dunman and River Valley JCs.

The same apply to River Valley Junior College, as well.

This is great news, because MOE finally giving us back (returning us back) 2 more A-level bound destination Junior Colleges, by Transforming SAP (Dunman & River Valley High) into Junior Colleges, after removing (take-away / subtract) 4 JCs (namely, Serangoon, Tampines, Innova, Jurong JC), through the merging of 8 JCs -

Students staying in the east, up to Pasir Ris / Loyang zone -
since there are going to be Total 4 Junior Colleges (including Dunman), to choose from, in the east :
will there be any changes to the Admission Cut-off point intake for JAE applicants, affecting or impacting (Victoria, Temasek & Meridian) Junior Colleges, as well as to Eunoia & Nanyang JC, both Science & Arts stream, next year ? In a way, this also kind of depend on the number of JC1 classes (vacancies) opened, at (Dunman & River Valley) JCs.

Next year (2019): we shall see !

Had been pondering over which route (O level or IP). DC also cannot decide after see a mix of comments in forum. But DC seem to quite like DHS, but when asked what is it that DC like, DC can't really tell. :scratchhead:

Any latest insights of the school culture, learning environment, staff, students, how the school & students help weaker students, etc. would be very much appreciated!

Hi! I'm a student in Dunman High. Personally, I do feel that Dunman's cultural is one that is very prominent and there is a good learning environment. Generally, the staff in Dunman High are very caring but there are a few teachers that are very biased. My current History teacher is very biased towards certain pupils that always score well in her tests and gave them very high grades in a major History project worth about 30-40% of our grade, regardless of their performance. Even though there were certain groups who outperformed them, they were given lower marks and there was an extremely large margin in score between her favourites and the rest of the class. The students in Dunman High are very nice and it is easy to pair up with them. Nonetheless, there are a couple of students who would bully or badmouth others but the teachers are currently trying to stop the issue. As for helping weaker students, it really depends on which teacher you get as some are super on about helping you while others will just take a back seat. Hi, I have heard that DHS is not moving. To accommodate the additional students, some CCA classrooms would have to been transformed into extra classes.
